Skövde stretches along the slope of Billingen; the summit is three kilometres from the city centre. The activities offer different focuses: hiking trails and MTB facilities sit alongside museums, a street museum and swimming facilities. When planning your trip, you can weigh up whether to focus on scenery and exercise, art and local history, or swimming and wellness.

Hiking on Billingen

Billingeleden is a 57-kilometre hiking trail around Billingen. Its route follows the edge of the mountain, offering impressive views, passes through pastures and forests on the slopes, and crosses the limestone plateau in Berg. Bergaklivet offers a shorter circular route: the trail is 19 kilometres long and passes through flowering meadows, lush wild garlic forests and gently rolling green hills. The two routes therefore differ both in length and in the landscapes described.

MTB training at Billingens Arena

Billingens MTB Arena is the starting point for the local MTB trail network. The arena also has short training tracks graded green, blue and red. A pump track complements the facilities: its undulating course lets you practise balance, rhythm and speed. If you want to choose between trail training and the pump track, you’ll find different types of training here—short tracks with designated difficulty levels and a course focused on balance, rhythm and pace.

Art and local history

The Konstmuseet in Skövde Kulturhus hosts permanent and temporary art exhibitions throughout the year. The collection features art from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. Changing displays are thus presented alongside a collection focus spanning a long period.

Stadsmuseet has two permanent exhibitions as well as temporary exhibitions. On the Skövde Streetmuseum walk, you pass buildings and works of art that bear traces of different eras and evoke times gone by. When you reach the next location, a signal sounds on your phone; there, you can read more about the place. The Streetmuseum guide is available around the clock, regardless of the time of day, weather or season.

Skövde Kulturhus also has a staffed InfoPoint with brochures, maps and local tourist information. It complements the exhibitions and walking tour with a place to get help finding your way around.

Swimming and wellness

Arena Skövde is a multi-purpose facility and a meeting place for all generations; it includes, among other things, an adventure pool. The swimming pool is 25 metres long and has seven lanes. Aqua Vitalis is in central Skövde and offers a different focus: facilities include a warm-water pool, a hammam stone, a sauna with infusions, a steam sauna, an outdoor pool and experience showers. While the swimming pool focuses on length and lanes, Aqua Vitalis offers several water and sauna areas.
