Skagersvik: Cycling Route, Swimming Area and Manor House History
Accommodation in Skagersvik
Explore Skagersvik on your trip through the landscape around Lake Skagern, along a cycling route and through the history of Ribbingsfors. The Torvedsbanan runs along the GullspÄngsÀlven river and later passes Skagersvik; Ribbingsfors Manor lies east of the bay on Lake Skagern, which stretches towards Skagersvik. Water, outdoor activity and manor house history thus offer different points of interest.
Cycling Route, Swimming Area and Boat Launch
The Torvedsbanan is 12.5 kilometres long and runs south along the GullspÄngsÀlven river to Midskog. A few kilometres further on, it leads to a rest area at the swimming area in Skagersvik; it then follows a small bay on Lake Skagern past Skagersvik. The distance to Midskog and the continuation to the swimming area are therefore two separate stages. When planning your bike ride, you can account for the 12.5 kilometres to Midskog and consider the following kilometres separately.
At the Skagersvik swimming area, the municipality provides a free boat launch. If you are travelling by boat, check that the launch is available again before setting off.
Ribbingsfors: Manor House and History
Ribbingsfors Manor today comprises about twenty buildings. The estate consists of the main building and two wings; the first figure describes the property as a whole, while the three parts named describe the manor complex. Until the beginning of the 17th century, Ribbingsfors Manor was called Hulestad. Much later, Frans G. Bengtsson lived at Ribbingsfors from 1938 until his death in 1954. The former name and Bengtssonâs time living there offer two points of entry into its history, separated by many centuries.
Farming in the Old Granary
The Lantbruksmuseet Ribbingsfors is housed in the old granary at Ribbingsfors Manor. It features agricultural equipment and hand tools used on nearby farms and in rural households. There is also an extensive collection of machines used on nearby farms. Its location in the granary connects the collection with the manorâs history, while the equipment and machines tell of agricultural work in the surrounding area. If you plan to visit the museum, check visiting arrangements in advance.
Golf in the Landscape Around Lake Skagern
Ribbingsfors GK has nine golf holes. The golf course is set among beautiful oak pastures, in an elegant setting by Lake Skagern. For golf enthusiasts making a decision, two specific aspects are therefore relevant: the number of holes and the location in the oak pasture landscape by the lake.
