Discover Hova through a range of interests: marked trails and woodland nature sit alongside historic sites, a local heritage museum and live concerts. When choosing where to stay, you can weigh these themes against one another: Should a summer event determine your travel dates, are you interested in outdoor activities, or would you like to learn more about the area's history? The named places and activities provide concrete starting points.

Summer event and year-round concerts

Since 1990, the Hova Riddarvecka has transformed parts of Hova into a medieval village for nine days each summer. The event is therefore a seasonal highlight with a limited duration. If it is the reason for your trip, check the specific event dates against your stay.

Rockfickan offers a different timeframe: the volunteer-run rock club in Hova hosts live concerts throughout the year. This means that an annual summer event sits alongside a concert programme that is not limited to those nine days.

Trails and outdoor activities around Hova

Hälsans stig is an accessible circular trail in Hova, 3.5 kilometres long. Getryggen has marked running and exercise trails measuring 2.5, 3.1 and 5 kilometres. The Getryggen activity park is located at the Movallen sports grounds in Hova. The trail lengths provide several different distances for reference, without specifying a walking time.

The Folkeberg Nature Reserve has a marked 1.6-kilometre circular walking trail. The protected area has the character of a primeval forest; fallen trees are left where they lie. The trees are around 170 years old, with some considerably older. Folkeberg therefore combines a precisely measured circular trail with a forest whose character is also shaped by how fallen trees are treated.

A 20-kilometre mountain biking trail also runs around Hova. About seven kilometres of it consist of firm, fine gravel. Those comparing routes by length and type of activity can consider these details alongside the shorter marked walking and running trails; the gravel section is part of the longer mountain biking trail.

History at specific sites

The Hova local heritage museum displays old farming objects and everyday items from different periods. Stikkan Andersson offers a personal connection to local history: he was born in Hova on 25 January 1931 and grew up in the small house by the market square. The house still stands in Hova and is called the Green House.

Varggropen at Värpemon near Hova also points to an earlier use of the area. The restored wolf trap pit was still in use in the 1850s. There is also a well-preserved Bronze Age stone cairn in the forest of the Folkeberg Nature Reserve. These places offer different ways to explore the past: a named house, a wolf trap pit and an archaeological monument.

Nature reserve and burial ground northeast of Hova

The Högsåsen Nature Reserve lies northeast of Hova and is part of the Stora Tiveden area. It has hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels. Högsåsen is therefore another option for travellers who consider not only trail length but also difficulty when choosing a natural area.

The Domarringarna burial ground is also northeast of Hova, near Lilla Hederna. It comprises five stone circles and five large, boulder-shaped stones. Together with the Bronze Age stone cairn at Folkeberg, it adds a burial ground with clearly identified features to the range of historic sites.

Press your own apple and pear juice

At Hova Musteri, customers can press fruit they bring themselves at the business's premises, using its equipment and expertise. You need to book a time by phone to have your fruit pressed. If you would like to have your own fruit processed, arrange an appointment in advance. Hova Musteri also sells ready-made juice and other apple and pear products.
