Canal, locks and waterside spots
In Dals Långed, the Dalsland Canal runs between Råvarpen and Laxsjön, passing through six locks and by two power stations. Långbron Lock is number 15 on the canal and connects Lake Långbrohöljen with Lake Laxsjön. Two points of reference can help you find your way: the canal route through Dals Långed and the individual connection over Långbron. Opposite Stenebyskolan in the centre are a guest harbour and a parking area for eight cars. The municipal bathing spot Kampudden is also on Långbrohöljen.
The seasonal lock café depends on the lock operating: when Långbron is open, canal ice cream and waffles are served, and visitors can watch the boats pass by. Check whether the lock will be open during your visit.
Art, education and history
Stenebyskolan is part of the University of Gothenburg and offers artistic training in wood, metal and textiles. Every year, it holds summer courses for professionals and curious beginners. As the programme is seasonal, check the current dates before your trip. The different materials provide specific points of focus for the art theme: wood, metal and textiles each offer their own approach to design.
Steneby Konsthall hosts exhibitions and events focused on material-based art and design. It brings national and international creatives to Dals Långed. The annual art walk in Dalsland is also part of the local cultural scene, with Dals Långed as one of its centres.
The building history of Dals Långed Church brings together two distinct dates. The church building incorporates a schoolhouse from the 1880s; the church itself was inaugurated in 1972. The schoolhouse is therefore part of the older building history, while 1972 is the year the church was inaugurated.
Trails, nature reserves and routes
The three exercise and hiking trails known as Motionsspåren Södra in Dals Långed are between 4 and 7 km long. The ski hut above Ekhagsskolan and Ekhagsvallen is a starting point for several exercise trails. The stated range makes it easy to compare the different trail lengths. For another route reference, the second stage of the Lelångeleden runs 45 km from Gustavsfors to Dals Långed; trail conditions may change.
Two nature reserves offer different locations: Ånäsebäcken Nature Reserve lies about 5 km south of Dals Långed on Route 2218, known as “Route 2218 – Vackra byars väg”, and is ideal for walks and exploring. Baldersnäs lies just north of Dals Långed and is also a nature reserve.
The route from Bengtsfors to Dals Långed follows the national cycling route Unionsleden. Along the way, it runs beside the Dalsland Canal on an old railway embankment. Check the trail surface and signage before setting off; for the Lelångeleden, it is a good idea to check the latest trail conditions.
