Anyone wishing to discover Själevad by its waterways can get their bearings using the two route details for the Moälven canoe trail. The canoe route is 20 kilometres long in total and runs from Moliden to the sea. The paddling route from Moliden to the Friluftscentralen in Själevad is approximately 16 kilometres; it can be covered in a Canadian canoe or sea kayak. There is also a launch site for canoes and kayaks at the Friluftscentralen. The endpoints help with planning: the full route continues to the sea, while the approximately 16-kilometre paddling route ends at the Friluftscentralen.

When planning, the character of the water matters as well as the route length. The downstream section passes through Själevadsfjärden to the sea; paddling there is mostly on the lake. If you are preparing a trip, check the water conditions and the availability of services before setting off.

Walks and Swimming Spots

For visitors who want to explore on foot, the shorter Själevad loop offers another way to experience the area. Much of the loop can be covered with a stroller or a rollator. The swimming spot on the loop has a sandy beach, picnic tables and a barbecue area. This makes it possible to combine a walk with a break by the water; the swimming spot offers both a beach and places to rest. If you are using a stroller or rollator, do not assume that the entire loop will be accessible.

Another swimming spot is Käringberget badplats, below Själevad Church. A walking path runs along the water there. Swimming is seasonal, and conditions on the path can vary depending on the time of year. If you would like to combine a walk with a swim, take these seasonal conditions into account when planning.

Activities and Socialising

The orienteering club Skogslöparna in Själevad welcomes newcomers to Örnsköldsvik and people who want to try orienteering for the first time to join training, regardless of their ability level. As participation details may change, it is best to ask the club about current options.

The Finnish and Sámi Activity Day is also held regularly at the Friluftscentralen in Själevad. If you would like to plan your stay around this event, check the specific dates.

Architecture in Själevad

Själevad Church is an octagonal neoclassical central-plan church with restrained neoclassical design. Its octagonal form and understated execution make it a subject in its own right alongside canoe tours and walks. Those interested in architecture can therefore include an architectural aspect in their plans for a stay, as well as outdoor activities.
