At Örnsköldsviks museum och konsthall, the permanent exhibition Arkiv Ö presents the history of Örnsköldsvik for children and adults. Exhibitions in the art gallery change several times a year; check the current program before your visit. The creative workshop offers crafts such as embroidery, wood carving and knitting, as well as other activities of this kind.

Bror Marklund’s workshop is his original, preserved summer studio from Funäsdalen. Tools, sketches, models and personal belongings are part of the workshop, which was donated to the Municipality of Örnsköldsvik. Örnsköldsviks kyrka also offers several points of interest for those interested in art and architecture: Gustaf Améen designed the church, which came into use in 1910. The pulpit was made by sculptor Clarence Blum from Ekeberg marble; the large altarpiece by Sigurd Möller depicts the Parable of the Great Banquet.

Galleri Lokomotiv is a small gallery in Örnsköldsvik’s travel center. It presents at least six exhibitions a year featuring artists from across Sweden. Nolavonda is a permanent exhibition produced by Örnsköldsviks museum & konsthall. The Hans Hedberg Museum displays works by Hans Hedberg.

H1 Sliperiet is a cultural center for creative activities and welcomes all age groups; visiting is easy and open to everyone. In Filmrummet, visitors can try film, photography, 3D modeling, printing and VR headsets. The program may change. For an art walk through the city, “Silhuetter i staden” links parks and squares with ten works of art. You can start anywhere along the route and walk it clockwise or counterclockwise.

Cycling, Hiking and Winter Sports

Skyttis is a sports and recreation facility in central Örnsköldsvik. The Örnen MTB Arena at Skyttis has 30 kilometers of marked routes and trails, as well as a paved pump track. Check trail conditions locally before riding. Downhill biking is possible at Varvsberget in summer. The Paradisliften takes visitors to the summit of Varvsberget during the summer season; check seasonal operations before making plans.

There are walks and hikes of varying lengths and formats. Gula leden on Åsberget is six kilometers long. The hiking section in Örnsköldsvik organizes both hikes close to town and longer outings in and around Örnsköldsvik on weekdays and weekends. As the program is seasonal, check current dates before your trip. Höga Kusten-leden starts at Stora Torget and is 129 kilometers long. It is divided into 13 stages and has elevation differences of almost 300 meters. Örnsköldsvik is accessible by train or bus in connection with the trail; check connections before your trip.

The Fyra Berg hiking trail is marked from the south side of the Örnsköldsvik travel center. Along the trail is the Wander Wonder art exhibition, where seven artists explore the relationship between a sense of place and movement. Check before your trip whether the exhibition is currently on display. For winter, the nature information center lists an approximately three-kilometer, easy classic cross-country ski trail at Hörnsjöns elljusspår, with a prepared walking path alongside it. Due to ongoing infrastructure work, follow local signs there.

Paddling and Seasonal Activities

Friluftsfrämjandet Örnsköldsvik offers paddling for all levels in spring, summer and fall. Hiking activities and seasonal paddling make it a good idea to check the relevant programs for your travel dates. Friluftscentralen rents canoes, including life jackets; ask about availability before your trip.
