Storseleby: River Scenery and Fishing on the Vojmån
Accommodation in Storseleby
Storseleby and the Vojmån offer two different starting points for planning a trip: the village and how to get there, and the regional river landscape and its connection to fishing. If you are looking for accommodation, you can consider these aspects separately at first, then weigh them according to their importance for your stay.
Getting to Storseleby
From Vilhelmina, drive 26 km along the E45 towards Storuman, then turn left towards Storsele. After another 2 km, Järjagården is on the right, on a hill at the end of the village. Check road conditions before setting out. When planning your route, you can treat the drive along the E45 and the additional 2 km after the turn-off as separate sections.
The surrounding river landscape
A 2012 map of Vojmåns FVO shows Storseleby. The Vojmån is one of the last larger, partly unspoilt flowing waterways in Lapland. It is about 65 km long and drops 80 m along its course. Rapids, fast-flowing stretches and calm pools alternate along the river. This variety makes the Vojmån interesting not only for fishing, but also as a landscape in its own right. The Vojmån runs 2 km from Järjagården.
Järjagården is on a hill at the end of the village, while the Vojmån runs 2 km away. These are two different points of reference: the specific location in the village and the nearby regional river landscape.
Fishing on the Vojmån
Vojmåns FVO covers almost the entire Vojmån between Vojmsjöns FVO and Volgsjöns FVO. Fly fishing and spinning are considered particularly promising methods on the Vojmån; grayling fishing is considered the best fishing there. Near Järjagården, fly fishing is the main fishing technique. Fly fishing is therefore the common focus, while spinning is another option when choosing a general method for fishing on the river. If fishing is part of your trip, check current conditions and regulations, as they may change.
Järjagården in Storseleby
Järjagården operated as a hikers’ hostel and restaurant in Storseleby. It held Friday dinners as a social gathering where people ate together and spent time together. If you are considering Järjagården for accommodation or a Friday dinner, check current availability and dates in advance.
Finding a hotel and choosing a location
If the village and getting there are your priorities, use the village’s location as your guide; if you are interested in nature and fishing, include the Vojmån in your plans. First compare the location with your main interest, then with your plans for your stay. This lets you start your search with a clear location criterion rather than focusing only on the name of the accommodation.
