Discover Vännäs: Forest Trails, Winter Sports and Culture
Accommodation in Vännäs
Vännäs offers different options for planning your trip: forest trails on the Gothnellska Peninsula, alpine skiing at Middagsberget, and art and local history. You can decide whether you would rather spend your time outdoors on the trails, enjoy winter sports or discover the local culture. Each of the places and activities described has its own focus, and they do not need to be combined into a single tour.

Forest and Trails on the Gothnellska Peninsula
The Gothnellska Peninsula is a forest close to town, between Vännäs and Vännäsby. A 66-metre wooden suspension bridge leads to the peninsula and is for pedestrian use. There are two trails on the Gothnellska Peninsula, each 2 kilometres long, as well as another trail measuring 0.8 kilometres. This lets you compare the routes by their stated lengths: two trails are the same length, while the third is shorter. These figures provide a specific point of reference if trail length matters to your plans.
The forest and trails are the main focus here for a stay outdoors. The peninsula’s location between Vännäs and Vännäsby places this wooded area close to town; the suspension bridge is reserved for pedestrians. For travellers looking for a shorter stated route, the 0.8-kilometre trail is an alternative to the two trails that are each 2 kilometres long. The different lengths make it easy to choose between the trails, without needing to assume a particular walking time.
Middagsberget for Alpine Skiing
Middagsberget is Vännäs’ main ski slope and a family-friendly alpine skiing facility. The facility has two lifts and six runs, including a fun park. Travellers looking to make winter sports the focus of their trip will find a clearly identified option here. Operating details are seasonal, and operations during the snow season vary. Therefore, check the seasonal information before planning your ski day.
Art and Local History
The public sculpture Ungdom can be seen in Oscarsparken in central Vännäs. A cast of the five-year-old Malak is located outside the Vännäs community centre. The two works offer different points of connection for exploring art in the town: Ungdom is in the park in the centre, while the cast has its own named location outside the community centre. This places public art and a work with a specific age reference in two different spots.
Local history is also linked to specific buildings. The Vännäs Motormuseum is housed in an old aircraft hangar at the former Vännäs airfield. Vännäs Läger opened in 1900, after about thirty buildings had been completed. All buildings at Vännäs Läger were designated protected historic buildings in 1985. The dates mark two different milestones: the opening of the camp and, decades later, the heritage protection of all its buildings. Together with the museum in the former hangar, these places offer a glimpse into different aspects of local history.
Getting to Vännäs Läger
You can reach Vännäs Läger by bus or train to Vännäs resecentrum; from there, the final leg is about 1.5 kilometres on foot. The walk is a separate part of the journey and can be taken into account when choosing your mode of transport. As transport services can change, check the timetable before travelling. This lets you plan public transport and the onward walk together.
