Nordmaling can be explored through three distinct travel highlights: Nordmalings kyrka, built around 1480; a market tradition held every July; and activities throughout the municipality. This brings together cultural history, a regular annual event and seasonal pursuits. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether you want to focus on historic landmarks and the market, a specific section of the Lögdeälvsleden, or activities on land and water. The market takes place in the town centre; the leisure opportunities cover the entire municipality of Nordmaling.

History and Art

Nordmalings kyrka was built around 1480. Vallen has a different historical significance: since the Middle Ages, it has been the church site of the Nordmaling parish. The church’s construction date and Vallen’s enduring role thus offer two different points of reference for local history: an approximate year of construction and a long historical continuity. A small art museum in the basement is dedicated to the Nordmaling artist Klas Engman. Nordmalings kyrkomuseum is located on the upper floor of the building to the left of the driveway to the church. For those interested in culture, this offers three themes: architectural history, continuity in church life and the recognition of an artist.

July Market

Nordmalings marknad is held every year in July in the town centre. The market tradition has continued for more than 100 years and has taken different forms. Its long history and changing formats go hand in hand: it is an ongoing tradition, not an unchanged format. Around 15,000 people visit the market each year. For planning purposes, July is the recurring time of year; check the specific date for your chosen year. If the market is one of your travel interests, you can include it in your schedule as a separate reason for your visit.

Activities by Season

The municipality of Nordmaling offers opportunities for activities on land and water throughout the year. In spring, summer and autumn, options include swimming, paddling, boating, fishing, visiting places of interest and hiking. In winter, ice fishing and cross-country skiing are available, including at Hurrbacken or Ålidberget. The range of options therefore changes considerably with the seasons. If your travel dates are flexible, you can consider whether the water-based and hiking activities available from spring to autumn or the winter offerings better suit your plans. These opportunities are throughout the municipality, not just in the town of Nordmaling.

A Route and Getting Around Town

One clearly defined route option is the 10 km Lögdeå E4–Hyngelsböle section of the Lögdeälvsleden. The starting point, Lögdeå E4, can be reached by travelling south from Nordmaling. Check road conditions before setting out. This route focuses on a specific section and its length, unlike the seasonal selection of activities across the municipality.

The locations of two facilities can also help you find your way: Norrskenshallen is centrally located on the E4, close to the centre of Nordmaling. Hammarhallen is in the centre of Nordmaling and has an indoor swimming pool. If you plan to visit, check the latest access and operating information.
