Adak combines a cultural landscape shaped by agriculture and mining with trails for different seasons and a bathing area by the lake. Local history, outdoor activities and time by the water offer different focal points and give you several ways to plan your stay.

Agriculture, Barns and Mining History

Adak’s cultural landscape brings together agricultural and cultivated areas with the newer settlement; characteristic barns are also part of it. At the same time, it bears witness to the transformation of an agricultural village into a thriving mining community. Those interested in the village’s development can therefore consider both its agricultural character and the changes to the settlement.

About 8.3 million tonnes of ore were mined in Adakfältet from 1940 to 1977. The approximate total and clearly defined period give the mining activity a concrete historical scale.

Another historical point of interest is Adak kyrka: Bishop Ivar Hylander inaugurated it on Ascension Day, 23 May 1963. The exact date provides a precise chronological reference for the inauguration.

Hiking and Winter Trails

The Adak Hiking Trail crosses varied terrain on its way to Adakliden. At the top, you’ll find lovely views and a peaceful spot surrounded by nature. For hikers who enjoy taking in the scenery, the trail offers not only a destination but also a quiet place at the top.

In winter, the Adak Hiking Trail can be used for hiking and sledding; well-maintained snowmobile tracks run alongside the trail at that time. The route is therefore also described as suitable for winter activities.

Another winter option is the 3.3-kilometre Adak cross-country ski trail, which has a natural snow surface. Its lights are switched on with a timer before skiing; lighting arrangements may vary by season. Check these arrangements before skiing.

The snowmobile trails in Adak pass the village shop and petrol station. Both are specific landmarks along the trails.
