Vormsele: Accommodation, Village Museum and Rapids
Accommodation in Vormsele
Vormsele, in the Swedish municipality of Lycksele, offers two distinct themes for a stay: village history at the Hembygdsgård grounds and the rapids on the Vindelälven nearby. If you are looking for a hotel or other accommodation, first decide whether a museum visit, an outing to Vormforsen or an activity by the water will be the focus of your day. This choice does not imply any particular feature of a specific property.

A school, a museum and relocated buildings
The grounds of the Vormsele Hembygdsgård tell the story of the village through several buildings. The main building was formerly Vormsele’s school and dates from 1901. An older barn was used for the village museum: it was built in Svartliden in 1870 and moved here in 1974. A building for old objects was added in 1981 and 1982. The different years therefore refer to the construction and relocation of different buildings, not to a single founding period.
The historic site also includes a settler’s cabin from Haraberget, relocated in 1975; a village smithy moved from Grundtjärn in 1976; and a grain-drying kiln moved from Björksele in 1977. A special exhibition hall was also built on the grounds. If you are interested in this history of buildings and everyday life, you can distinguish between the different functions; check whether and when the buildings are open before planning a specific visit. The Vormsele Hemslöjdsmässa was held on the grounds; this information does not establish that it is a recurring event.
Vormforsen as a day-trip destination
Vormforsen is one of the rapids in the Vormsele FVO area. The water drops around nine metres over a stretch of about 500 metres. Directions to the easiest access point are given from Route 363 between Rusksele and Vormsele; two access points are mentioned in total. This makes it easier to plan an outing than relying on the name of the rapid alone. The Sagostigen trail at Vormforsen can be difficult for small children and is not accessible with a stroller or wheelchair.
Another access point is described at SÖ Grillplats: from the car park, an easy-access path with a ramp leads to a platform with a wind shelter, tables and a permanently installed barbecue. This particular ramp does not mean that every path at Vormforsen is step-free. Choose the named access point to suit your group, and check current conditions before your outing. Linaforsen is another long rapid in the FVO area, but it is not another name for Vormforsen.
Water, transport and accommodation
Vormsele appears on the municipal list of outdoor swimming areas and bathing spots. However, current information about water conditions and facilities is still needed for a day at the swimming area. Fishing for trout, grayling and salmon is described in several rapids along the stretch of the Vindelälven managed by Vormsele FVO; you will need to check the applicable rules separately. The availability of fishing does not mean that access is free or that catches are unlimited.
For travel, the regional timetable lists bus route 305 on the Vormsele–Rusksele–Lycksele route. Check the times for your travel date and the distance from the stop to your actual accommodation. Then compare the price, facilities and availability of the specific hotel, holiday home or apartment with your planned museum or nature outing.
