When planning a stay in Heby, there are several interests to choose from: cultural history, sculptures and outdoor activities. You can make your choice based on whether you are more interested in church art and brickmaking history, a walk among sculptures, or specific trails and sports facilities. The examples range from a historic altarpiece to an exhibition on brickmaking and routes with stated distances.

Church Art and Brickmaking History

Västerlövsta Church was built in the late 15th century and houses a well-known altarpiece dating from 1520. This offers cultural history enthusiasts a specific work of art with a known date, in addition to the age of the church building itself.

The Heby Brickworks Museum is housed in a former brewery building made from hand-crafted bricks from Juhlins brickworks. Juhlins was one of the oldest brickworks in Heby and closed around 1900. The permanent exhibition explains how bricks were made. In this way, the museum connects the history of the building and the brickworks with the manufacturing process: the bricks are part of the former brewery building, while the exhibition explains how they were made.

Sculptures and Walking Trail

Next to the Heby Brickworks Museum is Tant Fridas stig, a sculpture park with a walking trail. It extends along both sides of the Örsundaån River. Visitors can walk or sit there and view numerous expressive animal sculptures by Sonja Pettersson. The subjects are dogs and cats. This makes the site a place to combine outdoor activity with a clearly defined art theme; sitting and viewing are among the options, as is walking.

Trails and Mountain Biking

The illuminated Elljusspåret exercise trail is located just north of Heby. It is 2.5 kilometres long and has lighting and a warming hut. The 8-kilometre Tegelspåret trail starts and ends at Heby Arena and runs along roads and pedestrian and cycle paths in Heby. The two routes therefore differ both in length and in their layout: one is an exercise trail with lighting and a warming hut, while the other follows roads and paths.

The Heby AIF mountain bike trails start at the ski lodge in Heby. Another option for mountain biking enthusiasts is Tegeltrampet, a race held in Heby every year in late summer or early autumn. It follows forest trails and is open to adults and young people up to age 16. Distances of 10, 20 and 40 kilometres are available. Unlike a simple trail distance, planning for this event also involves its date and race distance. Check the dates before your trip, as the fact that it is held annually does not specify a particular event day.

Sports Facilities and Practical Information

The popular Heby Arena, centrally located in Heby, has an indoor swimming pool and a well-equipped gym. Its sports halls can be rented.
