Almunge – Hiking, Swimming and Church Art
Accommodation in Almunge
Anyone wishing to plan a trip to Almunge combining short hikes, swimming in the lake and church art will find various options here for planning their days. The locality consists of a station settlement in the west and a church village in the east. Almunge is surrounded by a cultural landscape with high natural and cultural values. This makes it possible to combine your stay with exercise, water activities or a cultural visit, depending on your interests.
Church Art and Orientation in the Locality
A prominent cultural landmark is Almunge Church. It features wall and vault paintings by Albertus Pictor and his workshop. The church is located on Road 282 opposite Almunge’s health centre and school. Anyone interested in medieval church art can include Almunge Church as a separate item on their itinerary.
Swimming at Lake Södersjön
For a stay by the water, Södersjöbadet is a good option. It is located on Lake Södersjön in Almunge and is an easily accessible bathing area with a large lawn, jetty, swimming jetty, accessible bathing ramp, changing rooms and a toilet. You can spend a day swimming there and relaxing on the lawn, or use the available jetties and bathing ramp. Södersjöbadet can be reached by bus 809. From the nearest stop, Rånäs vägskäl in Almunge, it is approximately 1.5 km on foot to the bathing area. You should take this distance into account when planning your day.
An additional option for water activities is the swimming pool at Almunge sim- och sporthall. The pool measures 12 x 5.5 metres and is between 70 and 170 centimetres deep. Schools, associations, companies and private individuals can book the swimming pool by the hour. When planning your trip, it is important to distinguish between swimming at Lake Södersjön and the booked use of the swimming pool.
Hiking on the Upplandsleden Trail
Almunge can also be experienced via the Upplandsleden trail. On the fourth stage between Länna and Almunge, there is a wind shelter and a fire pit by Lake Långsjön. The fifth stage leads from Almunge to Lake Södersjön and is a short, easy-to-manage hiking section. This gives you two different hiking options: the fourth stage includes a specific rest area and Lake Långsjön as part of the route, while the fifth stage offers a manageable hiking option because of its short length. You can include either stage in your plans according to the type of route you prefer.
Bathing Area and Other Destinations
The Södersjöns badplats bathing area has a dry toilet and a picnic table. This complements the more detailed description of Södersjöbadet with another place to spend time by the water. If you would also like to compare Almunge with other destinations, you can include Uppsala, Järlåsa, Björklinge and Storvreta in your further planning. This allows you to align your choice of accommodation with your preferred focus on hiking, swimming and culture.
