Vendelsö: Drevviken, local history and activities
Accommodation in Vendelsö
Vendelsö can be explored through a range of interests: Drevviken offers swimming and lake views, while the skate park and padel bring activity to the area. The church, mill and school museum also give the town a historical dimension.
Bathing area and playground at Drevviken
Gårdens bad is located in the southern part of Drevviken. This small, particularly child-friendly bathing area has a sandy beach just under 100 metres long; further up, the sand gives way to a grassy area. This sequence gives the shoreline a distinct character: beach followed by green space. Swimming conditions vary by season, so check that they suit your travel dates.
The Dalenbadet playground in Vendelsö is also located by Drevviken. Its seating areas offer views of the lake. This makes it easy to distinguish between the different ways to enjoy the water: Gårdens bad is defined by its sandy beach and grassy area, while Dalenbadet combines a playground with seating and lake views. If you are looking for a beach, you can consider the bathing area; if you are considering a playground with a view of the lake, Dalenbadet offers a different option.
Activities and getting around
At Maxinge Skatepark in Vendelsömalmsgropen, you can skateboard, ride BMX or ride a kickbike. The facilities are specifically geared towards these three activities. If you want to include one of them in your stay, you can consider the skate park as a specific destination for getting active.
In Vendelsö (Lyckeby), the illuminated exercise trail starts at the end of Kvarnsjövägen. In Svartbäcken, Haninge's only free padel court operates without advance booking; play begins on the hour. The facilities therefore differ in how their timing is organised: the exercise trail has a designated starting point, while padel play starts on the hour. If you plan to play padel, you can arrange your day around this rule.
Church and historical traces
In the centre of Vendelsö, Vendelsö kyrka is an open, welcoming meeting place for everyday life. The wooden church was inaugurated in September 1967. Its pyramidal roof, corner windows and rose window are distinctive architectural features. The church can therefore be considered both in terms of its design and the date it was inaugurated.
A deed of sale from 1467 mentions Vendelsö gård, or “parts of Vendelsö”, on the southern shore of Drevviken. The Vendelsö kvarn is listed as a taxable croft under the estate “Wändelsö” in household records from 1746 to 1895 and in land registers from 1731 and 1740. The mill was used in autumn and spring, depending on water availability. Water from Lycksjön flowed along the watercourse towards Drevviken and powered it. These records offer different historical perspectives: an early mention of Vendelsö gård and later entries about the mill and its use.
School museum and wider surroundings
Svartbäckens school museum is normally open on the second Sunday of each month from 1 to 4 pm. Check the date before your visit. The museum parking spaces are located below Svartbäcksskolan. The opening hours and parking location offer two specific points to help with planning, without requiring a longer visit.
In the wider region, the Vendelsö-Gudö area borders Tyresta National Park, which offers significant natural and recreational value. This connection with nature is part of the area's regional context; the bathing area, playground, church and activities mentioned above, by contrast, are specific to Vendelsö and Svartbäcken. If nature experiences are a deciding factor in your choice of destination, you can also take this wider context into account.
