When choosing a destination, Sundbyberg’s nature and cultural attractions offer different points of focus. Protected landscapes and trails are suited to an emphasis on exercise and nature; Marabouparken, Duvbo’s architectural history and literary signs offer other ways to explore. When planning your trip, you can first consider whether walks, parkland, or art and literature will be the deciding factor.

Nature Reserves and Trails

Igelbäcken Nature Reserve was established in 2004 to protect Igelbäcken and preserve the surrounding landscape for recreation and nature experiences. Both the protection of the watercourse and the recreational purpose shape the character of the area. The reserve has an accessible circular trail, intended to make the nature reserve accessible to more people. It complements the aims of protection and recreation with a concrete way to experience the area.

Lötsjön-Golfängarna Nature Reserve covers 28 hectares. Its parkland includes wooded areas, open lawns and a bird lake, as well as a playground, a paddling pool and a ball court. These features combine different nature and leisure attractions: the woods, lawns and lake shape the landscape, while the facilities offer additional recreational options.

Several walking and cycling paths cross Lötsjön-Golfängarna Nature Reserve. Hälsans stig is another specific point of reference for planning an outing: the five-kilometre running and walking route goes around Lötsjön and continues as far as Råstasjön in Solna. The route thus combines a loop around the lake with an extension to a named destination in Solna.

Park History, Art and Cultural Landscapes

Landscape architect Sven Hermelin worked on Marabouparken for 18 years, from 1937 to 1955. In 2008, the park received the “Sweden’s Most Beautiful Park” award. Marabouparken Konsthall offers another cultural perspective, with exhibitions by Swedish and international artists focusing on contemporary artistic practices. Together, the park’s design, its award and contemporary art offer different points of interest for a culturally minded visit.

The area around Duvbo also offers a glimpse of the built cultural landscape. The area, with its houses, parks and streets, has been classified as an area of national interest for cultural heritage conservation since 1987. The buildings described include larger villas from the early 20th century and smaller houses from the mid-20th century. Their different sizes and construction dates give this classification a concrete architectural context.

Literature is represented in Sundbyberg by 16 “Literary Signs.” Each sign features an author associated with Sundbyberg and includes quotations describing the city in literature. The signs thus connect each author with literary depictions of the city—another way to explore Sundbyberg, distinct from looking at its landscapes, buildings or park history.
