Between the Sea, Forest and Lövhagen

Strandvägen: Sea Views on the Way to Lövhagen

Strandvägen runs along the sea to Lövhagen. Its landscape is defined by a clear contrast: coniferous forest on one side and the open sea on the other. For cyclists, a ride along Strandvägen in Nynäshamn is peaceful and easy and offers sea views. Those who like to distinguish between a bike ride and paths through a natural area when choosing activities will find two clearly identifiable focal points here.

The road also has a historical dimension. Strandvägen was built for the spectators of the Olympic sailing competitions held in Stockholm in 1912. The route today therefore represents not only the connection between forest and sea, but also a chapter in Nynäshamn’s history.

Bathing History and Historic Buildings in Trehörningen

Trehörningen is part of the area’s history and eventually became the center of the bathing resort in Nynäshamn. Between 1906 and 1913, Badhotellet, Parkhotellet, Strandhotellet and a casino were built there.

Nynäshamn’s railway history is also visible. The locomotive shed area in Nynäsgård was declared a listed building by the Stockholm County Administrative Board in 1999. The listed building and the museum refer to two aspects of railway history: the historic site in Nynäsgård and the vehicles preserved in the locomotive shed. The locomotive shed of Nynäshamns Järnvägsmuseum houses a collection of older railway vehicles. The museum also operates museum train services with its steam locomotives and carriages, including on the Nynäsbanan railway line. This allows a visit to be supplemented with an explicitly railway-historical experience.

Harbor, Exhibitions and Further Discoveries

Nynäshamn’s guest harbor has 300 berths, well protected inside the breakwater. The harbor sheds sell coffee and pastries, art and handicrafts, antiques, as well as clothing. The harbor thus combines berths with a diverse range of offerings in the harbor sheds.

The Nynäshamn Art Gallery provides a cultural counterpoint. It presents exhibitions by professional artists and amateurs, spring salons, student exhibitions, photography exhibitions, as well as exhibitions aimed at children.
