Discover Ekerö through several distinct themes: the medieval Ekerö kyrka, paths by the water, culture in Ekerö Centrum and Ekebyhovs slott. These places offer different points of interest to help you decide what to explore.

The church, Kyrkviken and the avenue of fruit trees

Ekerö kyrka was built at the end of the 12th century as the estate church for Asknäs gård. It stands on a hill beside Kyrkviken, surrounded by farmland. The water, elevated setting and agricultural surroundings all contribute to the character of this historic site. An avenue of fruit trees about 700 metres long leads from Asknäs gård to the church; it is Sweden’s longest avenue of fruit trees. The path thus connects the named estate with the church and is itself part of the visit. The building, path and surroundings provide different historical and landscape perspectives on a visit to the church.

Culture in Ekerö Centrum

The Kulturhuset in Ekerö Centrum was designed by Ralph Erskine. The Erskinesalen in Ekerö Centrum hosts theatre performances, concerts, lectures and film screenings; the hall has 218 seats. If you are planning your trip around a particular event, check the schedule for your preferred date, as dates may change. This makes it easy to fit a visit to the cultural programme around your travel dates.

Walking or cycling along Tappströmskanalen

The waterfront promenade in Ekerö Centrum runs along Tappströmskanalen towards Fredriksstrand. It includes a paved path for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as a gravel path for pedestrians right by the water. The distinction is clear for planning purposes: the paved path is intended for walking and cycling, while the gravel path runs by the water as a walking path. There are several places to sit along the entire promenade, including hanging chairs, a large wooden deck and hammocks. The paths and seating make exercise and breaks two sides of a visit to the promenade.

Ekebyhovs slott and the guest jetty

Ekebyhovs slott offers a different historical perspective. Its origins date back to the 1670s; the estate includes a large park and an apple orchard. The castle is centrally located on Ekerö, not far from Ekerö Centrum. In contrast to Ekerö kyrka, whose history is linked to Asknäs gård and the avenue of fruit trees, the park and apple orchard take centre stage here. The two historic sites thus differ in both their history and their landscapes.

There is a guest jetty in Tappström, on Tappströmskanalen near Ekerö Centrum. Boats can moor there free of charge. The guest jetty offers a different way to enjoy the water than the waterfront promenade: the promenade focuses on paths for pedestrians and cyclists, while the jetty is for mooring boats.
