Boo amid forest trails, water and history

If you would like to combine nature experiences with swimming spots and cultural-historical sites in Boo, Booleden provides particularly clear guidance. Booleden is approximately 15 kilometres long and runs from Boo hembygdsgård in Orminge to Strömmen farm at the border with Värmdö Municipality. Orange ribbons on trees or posts mark the route. Along the way, Booleden passes through forests and across rocky terrain, past small forest lakes and over meadows. At approximately 15 kilometres, Booleden is considerably longer than the 2.7-kilometre Lila slingan in Rensättra.

Hiking trails in Velamsund and Rensättra

In eastern Boo lies the Velamsund nature reserve, one of Nacka Municipality's largest recreational areas. On Himlaberget there is an observation tower with sweeping views over Nacka and the inner archipelago. Several hiking trails and exercise loops offer routes of different lengths: these include a lit 2.5-kilometre route, the green 4-kilometre route and the red 6-kilometre loop. The two natural areas differ in their specific landscape features: Velamsund has the observation tower on Himlaberget as well as trails and exercise loops; Rensättra comprises pastureland, old Scots pine forests on rocky ground, stream habitats and a shoreline location by Sågsjön. In Rensättra, Lila slingan passes meadows, horse paddocks, bodies of water, allotment gardens, spruce forest and rocky terrain.

The Rensättra nature reserve lies in the northern part of Boo. Swimming is also possible on the shore of Sågsjön. Baggensstäkets cultural reserve in Boo is intended to provide a natural area close to residential areas for recreation.

Boobadet with beach, cliffs and playground

Boobadet combines various shoreline areas: its facilities include a ramp for improved accessibility, a sandy beach, bathing jetties and cliffs. There is also a barbecue and spacious lawns with a playground. The bathing area can be reached by bus route 414 to the Boo gård stop; from there, the route continues on foot for approximately 600 metres.

Cultural-historical sites in Boo

Boo has a cultural-historical walking tour that can be taken with a guide and includes a stop outside Boo Gård. Other cultural-historical traces include Boovalvet, a preserved cellar northwest of Boo herrgård that may date from the 16th century.

Boo kyrka preserves a series of stained-glass windows depicting the Passion story. There are also wall and vault paintings by Olle Hjortzberg. The history of a chapel is also connected with Boo: following the Russian devastations of 1719, the chapel built in 1635 was burned down. The palace architect Nicodemus Tessin then built a new chapel, which was inaugurated in 1724. The historical sequence thus extends from the chapel of 1635 through its destruction in 1719 to the inauguration of the new building in 1724. Boo therefore offers everything from marked trails and lakes to church art, guided local history and preserved architectural features.
