Forest and trails in Bålsta

The large Bålstaåsen forest is right by Bålsta station and gives the area a strong connection to nature. Blå stigen is also located on Bålstaåsen near the station: it starts and ends at the information board just north of the scout house at Ullevivägen 74. Another circular route, Hälsans stig, is about four kilometres long and passes the station area, the centre, Medborgarhuset and the Upplandsleden. Its landmarks give the loop a different route from trails that lead mainly through forests and countryside.

Circular routes with different characteristics

For a short loop, consider Lillsjöslingan: the 1.2-kilometre, blue-marked trail goes around Lillsjön and runs mostly along natural forest paths. Björnbroslingan is longer, at about 4.5 kilometres, and loops around Skörby in Bålsta. Along the route, gravel paths through open farmland alternate with winding forest trails. The route passes the Balders hage wetland; there are several benches and two barbecue areas along the way. The two loops differ clearly in length and scenery, without requiring an estimated walking time.

Sections of the Upplandsleden

Two sections of the Upplandsleden have different documented landmarks. The section between Bålsta and Skokloster is about 20 kilometres long and marked in orange. Views of bays on Lake Mälaren and farmland are also described for trails in this landscape; however, a specific viewpoint on this section cannot be confirmed. Another section starts at Bålsta station and ends at the Ekilla Nature Reserve. This information helps distinguish the routes without specifying a length for the trail to Ekilla.

Cycling and paddling

There are also specific points to consider when choosing between different activities. Cykelleden Uppland runs between the Resecentrum in Bålsta and Ekillabadet on cycle paths without car traffic. Kalmarsand in Bålsta is a good starting point for paddling. Alongside the hiking trails described above, this provides a named section of cycle route and Kalmarsand as a paddling departure point to help with your plans.

Play, parks and culture

Bålsta aktivitetspark is in the centre, between Fridegårdsgymnasiet and the ice rink. It is a place to relax, play and enjoy spontaneous sports. The park is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, with the exception of the skatepark. Its location between two named landmarks and the specific limitation concerning the skatepark help put the park in context without treating all areas as the same.

Åbergs Museum is housed in a renovated 19th-century barn. Inside the museum is a three-storey Trazankoja with a slide, a suspension bridge and Hemliga Arnes laboratorium. Alongside this distinctive museum attraction, Lilla Hagalund is an important cultural heritage site in Bålsta. This brings together nature trails, an activity park and two different cultural points of interest: historic buildings and cultural heritage on the one hand, and distinctive museum features on the other.
