Forest Landscape and Natural Values

Bokskog vid Västra Torup is a diverse heathland beech forest with stands of varying ages. The forest lies on a winding glacial esker more than two kilometres long. An esker is an elongated ridge of sand and gravel deposited by glacial meltwater. Several old, large trees grow there, and a rich lichen and moss flora is also described. The winding esker is more than two kilometres long; the Torupasjön circular trail by the lake measures 1.6 km. The varying ages of the forest stands and individual old, large trees contribute different aspects to the character of the forest.

Local History in Lilla Tockarp

The history of the local heritage farm complex in Lilla Tockarp spans several phases: the main building was constructed in 1760 on the remains of earlier buildings dating from the 1630s. From 1979, the newly established Västra Torup heritage association took over and restored the complex. Its architectural history therefore includes not only the 1760 building, but also the remains of earlier structures and a later restoration phase. A church service is held every year on Midsummer's Day at the local heritage farm in Lilla Tockarp; it is a summer tradition there and adds a seasonal cultural highlight to the site's architectural history.
