Discover Svedala through its architectural history, art and a longer hiking route. Sacred history and preserved brick buildings sit alongside cultural offerings; the Kulturslingan adds a hiking route of about 36 kilometres. This gives you different ways to shape your stay: local history, art and library offerings, or a longer trip along a variety of paths.

Architectural history from the church site to the windmill

A stone church stood on the site of today’s Svedala kyrka in the 13th century. In 1902, the church acquired its present appearance, with its tall tower. These two dates span the building’s history, from its early church origins to its later form. If you are interested in historic architecture, Svedala also has turn-of-the-century brick buildings preserved as homes, commercial properties and patrician villas. Industrial buildings and a railway station are also among the preserved structures.

One striking example is the five-storey Aggarps kvarn/mölla windmill. It was built in Svedala in 1896 and is a so-called Dutch-style mill. Another building with a historic function is Mjölnarebostaden on Aggarpsvägen: the former miller’s residence dates from the late 19th century. Together with the brick buildings, these examples show different aspects of local architectural history without focusing on a single building type.

Art and local history

Galleri KVIS is an art gallery in central Svedala, and admission is free. The library houses the Svedalasamlingen, an extensive collection of books and writings about places and events in the municipality. There is also an exhibition at the library, featuring objects and image shows. The offerings focus on different things: the collection explores local and municipal history through texts, while the exhibition presents objects and image shows. Together, they complement the view of the preserved buildings with art and local history.

An annual event is also part of the cultural offering: the Svedala-Barabygden local history association holds Mölledag once a year. If you would like to time your trip to coincide with this event, check the date in advance.

Hiking trail and outdoor swimming pools

The Kulturslingan is a hiking trail about 36 kilometres long. Parts of it run along country roads, cycle paths and footpaths. When planning your hike, both the approximate total distance and the types of paths mentioned are important. The Kulturslingan is an option for a longer hike; the gallery and library offerings provide different thematic focuses. You can decide whether a hike or cultural interests should take centre stage on your trip.

The municipality also has two outdoor swimming pools: Bara badsjö and Svedala friluftsbad. You can factor this option into your plans if, alongside culture and hiking, you would also like to consider outdoor swimming pools at your destination.

Finding your way around the centre

Storgatan and the areas around Stortorget and Marknadstorget are in central Svedala. These areas give you specific reference points if you would like to combine your stay with visits to the centre. Together with centrally located Galleri KVIS, they provide another way to connect with the town beyond its historic buildings and hiking route. The different themes can help you choose Svedala based on the interests that will shape your trip.
