Linderöd combines a large beech forest nature reserve north of the village with walking routes, a fitness trail and a church with a medieval history. Nature, exercise on foot or by bike, and historical details offer different points of interest when planning a trip.

Nature on Linderödsåsen

The northern slope of Linderödsåsen, north of Linderöd, is a large beech forest nature reserve. The small Bjära nature reserve is also on Linderödsåsen. Linderödsåsen is home to the large beech forest nature reserve on its northern slope and the small Bjära nature reserve.

The Vramsån flows through the reserve and is one of the cleanest and most valuable watercourses in Skåne. At least seven different species of large freshwater mussels are found there, including the highly endangered freshwater pearl mussel and the thick-shelled river mussel. The river adds a distinctive natural feature to the forest area: alongside the beech forest, the watercourse and its mussel species are also a specific point of interest.

The northern slope is also home to one of the largest populations of lungwort lichen in Skåne. Together with the Vramsån and its mussel species, this creates a natural profile with several different features: beech forest, flowing water and lungwort lichen.

Walking and Cycling Routes

The red- and blue-marked fitness trail starts at the car park at Linderöd Church. A local walking route follows the railway embankment towards Liarum and returns via Marknadsvägen. Another walking route runs along Vädermöllevägen. The routes therefore provide different points of reference: the railway embankment route names both its direction and return path, while the other follows Vädermöllevägen.

Cycling is also represented by a specific route: “Genom Linderödsåsens skogar” is 58 km long and reaches Linderöd at the railway embankment. On the country road between Äsphult and Linderöd, the route winds through lush deciduous forest. The railway embankment thus features in two different route descriptions: as a reference point for a walking route and as the arrival point of the cycling tour. This helps distinguish local walking options from the longer-distance cycling route without conflating the two.

Linderöd Church and Traces of the Past

Linderöd Church was built in the second half of the 12th century. Above the church portal is a sandstone tympanum dating from the 12th century. A tympanum is the space above a portal; here, it is a specific architectural feature from the early history of the church. The wall paintings were completed in 1498.

These dates give the church several historical reference points: the building and tympanum date to the 12th century, while the wall paintings were completed much later. This makes it possible to distinguish between the building, the portal decoration and the paintings when considering the history of the village. The church car park is also the starting point for the red- and blue-marked fitness trail—a specific connection between the historic site and one of the local exercise options.
