Kattvik – Harbor, Pebble Beaches and Skåneleden

Kattvik combines the history of an old fishing village with a harbor, pebble beaches, protected coastal scenery and access to the Skåneleden. This makes the village particularly suitable for you if maritime culture, nature and hiking experiences are to guide your choice of destination.

Harbor, fishermen’s huts and coastal scenery

Kattvik was originally an old fishing village with a harbor. The harbor has a small marina, as well as old fishermen’s huts with red wooden siding and sheet-metal roofs. These architectural details make the harbor a tangible part of the village’s character, without reducing Kattvik to a mere harbor setting. The village is also characterized by pebble beaches. Above Kattvik lies a small-scale pastoral landscape that creates its own contrast with the coast. The pastureland above the village complements the pebble-beach coast with a distinctly different type of landscape.

The landscape is protected in several ways: all of Kattvik forms part of a landscape protection area under the former Natural Resources Act, while the coastal strip is subject to shore protection. Kattvik thus combines a historically shaped harbor area with a landscape in which the coast, pastureland and protected status are closely connected. Troentorpsdalen is a landscape area and also a LA area.

Hiking and historical connections to the village

For active days, you can follow the Skåneleden from Kattvik toward the beautiful cliffs. Another notable landmark is Krossarevägen in Kattvik: it is the northeasternmost entrance to the Bjärekusten Nature Reserve. Those who want to combine nature experiences with regional history will also find a designated connection to cultural-environment conservation in upper Kattvik, in Troentorp. Parts of this area are included in the cultural-environment conservation program because of their old road network. The designation concerns parts of upper Kattvik in Troentorp, not the entire village.

The development of the coastal connection is also part of the village’s history. Around the turn of the century, the coastal road between Båstad and Kattvik was built.

Fruit growing and apple juice

Kattviks Fruktodling adds its own local dimension. Swedish fruit from the region is pressed there into unfiltered apple juice without additives. The business was founded by CP Johansson in 1936 and continues to be run across several generations to this day. The cultivation consists mainly of apples, but also includes pears. The apple varieties Ingrid Marie and Cox Orange are also grown.

The history of the business also includes its acquisition in 2018: Per Henrysson bought Bjärebygdens Musteri AB, which produces apple juice under the name Englamust, and continued operating the company as part of Kattviks Fruktodling. Kattviks Fruktodling also offers self-picking on four autumn weekends. Alongside the harbor and coastal paths, fruit growing, varietal diversity and juice production therefore also form part of the local identity.
