Immeln – Lake, Hiking Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Immeln
Lake Immeln has clear water and rocky shores. The settlement of Immeln, by the railway station, lies at the southern tip of the lake and is the main settlement around the water. This means you can view the destination from two perspectives: as a lake with distinctive shores and as a settlement at its southern end. When choosing where to stay, you can first consider whether water, hiking trails or culture is particularly important to your trip.
Nature and rest areas by the lake
In the Immeln wildlife sanctuary, the many islands are important for the area's rich birdlife. There are five designated rest areas by the lake, equipped with fire pits, wind shelters and toilets; they are located outside the wildlife sanctuary. For nature enthusiasts, Immeln thus offers two different points of reference for planning the day: the islands as an important habitat for birds, and the rest areas as specific, well-equipped places by the lake.
Hiking trails and choosing a route
Stenrundan is a 5.2 km hiking trail in Immeln. It runs from the town centre by the Stenmuséet to the old quarry at Gedenryd. For a longer route, there is Stage 8 of Skåneleden SL6: it runs from Arkelstorp to Immeln and is 10 km long. This gives you a choice between a shorter hike connected to the town centre and a longer stage between two places. The length and endpoints offer a concrete comparison when choosing a route to suit your hiking plans.
Hiking, canoeing and fishing
Rundleden between Immeln and Breanäs was developed as part of a project as a combined hiking and canoe trail. It complements the hiking routes mentioned above with a route concept that brings the two activities together. You can also spin-fish for pike and perch in the lake. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on a hiking route, a combination of hiking and canoeing, or a specific type of fishing.
Culture in the town centre
One cultural point of interest is in the centre of Immeln: the “Svart Granit” exhibition is housed in the railway's old water tower. Its location in the town centre offers a different focus from the trails and nature around the lake. For travellers who want to include culture in their plans for the destination, the exhibition is a specific point of interest in Immeln.
Where to stay in Immeln
There are campsites by the lake on several islands and on the mainland where overnight stays are possible. These two locations give you a concrete point of reference if you are considering an overnight stay in Immeln. If you are planning an overnight stay, check the campsites' current availability before travelling.
