Market traditions in Hästveda

Hästveda Marknad is a traditional family market dating back to the 1870s. It takes place every year on the Wednesday and Thursday of the second week of July; the livestock market is held on the second day. This schedule is useful when planning your trip if you want to experience the market or the livestock market in particular. If you are planning your visit around Marknad, check the exact dates in advance.

Church and cultural history

Hästveda Church was built around 1190 as a Romanesque country church. Its wall paintings date from around 1480 and are among the best-preserved and most artistically significant works by the Everlöv Master. The two approximate dates refer to different historical periods: the church was built several centuries before the paintings. Hästveda therefore offers both a Romanesque perspective and a later, distinctive collection of paintings. The church is used for services and community events.

Hembygdsparken in Hästveda offers a different cultural focus. The living museum comprises several preserved buildings dating from the 18th century and later, which have been relocated here. It also features an exhibition of stage costumes by Sonja Stjernquist. The historic buildings and stage costumes offer different points of interest for anyone interested in architectural history or theatrical costumes.

Trails and outdoor activities

The Lursjöleden is 13 kilometres long in total and also includes shorter circular walking routes. The trail passes through beech forest, mixed forest, spruce forest and open agricultural landscapes; the terrain is easy and flat. When planning your walk, it is worth distinguishing between the total length of the trail and the shorter loops: the 13 kilometres refers to the Lursjöleden as a whole.

Another option is the 2.6-kilometre illuminated loop in the area around Lillasjö. The two distances provide a clear comparison of different route lengths: 2.6 kilometres for this loop, compared with 13 kilometres for the Lursjöleden as a whole. Hästveda also has skateboard ramps. Alongside the trails, there are therefore other ways to get active outdoors.
