Horröd – Nature and Cycling
Accommodation in Horröd
Forest, Water and Nature Values
Near Hörröd is an older beech forest rich in deadwood. The Hovdalaån/Brönnestadsån watercourse flows from south to north through the HAS042 Horröd och Brönnestad nature value area. Horröd therefore has two distinct connections with nature: a forest site and a watercourse within the named area. If you are weighing up nature-related aspects of your trip, it helps to distinguish between their locations: the beech forest is near Hörröd, while the watercourse runs through HAS042.
The 2022 regional nature value overview classifies HAS042 as a nature value area in class 2. It also identifies Hovdalaån/Brönnestadsån as a watercourse of national special value to nature, designated by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency under the environmental quality objective “Flourishing Lakes and Streams.” These are separate designations: class 2 applies to the area, while the national designation applies to the nature value of the watercourse. This distinguishes the two, even though the watercourse and nature value area are both part of the landscape description here.
In the Municipality of Hässleholm’s nature conservation plan, nature value area 1127 Horröd has its own classification: class 1. The plan also notes that part of the area was removed following logging. This information relates to 1127 Horröd and should be distinguished from the class 2 classification for HAS042 Horröd och Brönnestad. The classifications refer to different area names and planning contexts; they do not form a single ranking. To understand them, it is therefore important to consider the relevant areas as well as their different classifications.
The Surrounding Landscape
In the area around Hörröd, Brönnestad is part of HAS042 Horröd och Brönnestad. There is a pasture along a glacial ridge, whose northern and central sections are shaped by mature oaks. The area is also part of a broadleaved hardwood forest network and has ecological connections to the broadleaved hardwood forests on Göingeåsen. Compared with the older beech forest near Hörröd, this area also features a pasture, a glacial ridge and prominent oaks. The ecological connection broadens the focus from individual landscape features to the network of broadleaved hardwood forests.
Cycling and Regional Produce
For cycle tourists, the Norra Skogsrundan offers a specific route: it is 45 kilometres long and runs north from Hässleholm towards the area around Hästveda. The municipality’s 2024 cycling map shows Horröd on both the Göingerundan and the Norra Skogsrundan. The Norra Skogsrundan is a 45-kilometre tour running north towards Hästveda; the municipal cycling map also shows Horröd on both this route and the Göingerundan. If cycling helps determine your choice of destination, you can take into account both a specific total distance and two named route themes.
Horröds Humle offers a different perspective. The business sells its own homegrown pelletised hops of the Korsta and Comet varieties. If regional produce is also a consideration when choosing where to stay, you can take this specific product into account alongside nature and cycling. This brings different interests into focus: the landscape features described, cycling routes or a named agricultural product.
