Discover Åkarp: Culture, History and Leisure
Accommodation in Åkarp
Åkarp offers travellers a culturally and historically rich stay, with additional opportunities for sports, outdoor activities and days out with children.
Culture and history in Åkarp
A central point of interest is Kulturhuset Möllegården. The cultural centre includes a library, exhibitions, a lively workshop and cultural events. The collections of Charlotte Weibull are also now part of the offering. Möllegården therefore appeals to visitors who want to combine their stay with regional culture and creative impressions.
The grounds include a garden laid out in 1886 by the landscape gardener Bengt Kjellsson. At one time, there were 103 varieties of roses there. This historical information is just as much part of the site's history as Möllegården's role as one of the original farms in old Åkarp. Åkarp's mill was already mentioned in 1673 as “Vaedermöllen ved Aagerup”. Those interested in the area's earlier history can also identify the modest remains of the once-famous passage grave Ågarpe backe at the corner of Alnarpsvägen and Möllevägen.
Another historic building is Gymnastikhuset på Hvilan. It was built in 1884 and is now the oldest surviving building of its kind in Sweden. The building's historical identity makes it interesting for exploring Åkarp's architectural and educational history, without implying that it is currently open to visitors.
Leisure with children and sporting opportunities
Those travelling with children will find several specific places to play in Åkarp. Gröningens lekplats is located at Falkvägen 12 in a small, green park between residential buildings. It has swings, climbing equipment, sand play, a rotating play apparatus, ball games and seating. Tvättmästarens lekplats is located in Harakärrsparken at Brännmästarevägen 27 A. The park areas are suitable for free play and ball games; in winter, the hill can be used for sledging. The facilities also include a swing, slide, sand play and seating.
Further playgrounds add to this selection: Bilens lekplats is located at Frostavägen 14 between Bjärevägen and Frostavägen and offers, among other things, climbing equipment, a slide and sand play. Svanens lekplats is located at Albovägen 22 in Svanetorpsparken between Skånevägen and Albovägen; balance equipment is also available there. Tunnellekans lekplats is located at Kjellsons väg 22, southwest of Ljungvägen. The name refers to a large pipe running through the embankment, which is also used for sledging in winter.
For physically active travellers, the multisport arena at Dalslundskolan offers opportunities for football, basketball, parkour and floorball. Åkarps idrottsplats can be booked for football, rugby, cricket, athletics, sports days and competitions. The Åkarp branch of Friluftsfrämjandet also offers outdoor activities for children and young people, including Skogsmulle and the TVM adventure group.
Orientation for planning your trip
