Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen: Lakes, Cycling Routes and Culture

## Lake Landscape between Kellersee and Dieksee Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen lies in the heart of Holstein Switzerland on a ridge between Kellersee and Dieksee. You can experience the interconnected lake landscape by paddling, hiking, cycling or taking the 5-Lake Cruise. The town thus combines experiences on the water, nature and cultural destinations. The different ways of getting around each emphasize different aspects: From the water, the lakes take center stage, while cycling and walking routes focus on the hilly landscape and the town. ## Cycling and Walking Routes around Malente If you would like to explore Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen actively, different route lengths are available to help with orientation. The approximately 23-kilometer circular cycling tour “In the Footsteps of the Boulders” leads through the hilly landscape of East Holstein around Malente. It includes eight large boulders, each marked with a sign providing information about the history of the site, the view of the landscape or directions. The 11.1-kilometer Dieksee Circular Route also passes through Malente-Gremsmühlen. In addition, eight of the 21 Nordic walking routes run in and around the climatic health resort of Bad Malente. The different distances help you plan according to the cycling or walking route. At 11.1 kilometers, the Dieksee Circular Route is significantly shorter than the 23-kilometer Boulder Tour. This range provides a simple guide to the desired route length. ## Lake Cruise and Lido The 5-Lake Cruise is a 12-kilometer excursion by the White Fleet’s sightseeing boats across Dieksee, Langensee, Behlersee, Höftsee and Edebergsee. The Schwentine connects Kellersee and Dieksee, runs through Malente’s town center and passes the spa gardens. The boat trip offers a different experience from the routes on land: Several lakes are connected in a single excursion, while cycling and walking routes explore the landscape along designated paths. For a day of swimming, there is a clear date and time: From 12:00 noon on May 23, 2026, you can swim in the lido on Dieksee or enjoy the approximately 100-meter-long sandy beach. ## WunderWeltWasser and the Spa Gardens Wooden walkways lead through various biotopes and areas in the 13-hectare WunderWeltWasser site. This makes the nature area accessible on foot even for older people. The spa house, open-air stage and music pavilion in the spa gardens are used throughout the year for concerts, readings and other events. ## Historic Places in the Townscape Tews-Kate is considered the oldest preserved smokehouse cottage in East Holstein. It is a thatched former smokehouse cottage dating from the Thirty Years’ War and now houses Malente’s local history museum, with a permanent exhibition on agricultural equipment, household furnishings and craft tools. The Maria Magdalene Church in Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen has historical roots dating back to the 13th century. Its nave and chancel have been preserved in their original form. The interior features carvings on the Renaissance pulpit, the altar and the wall paneling. Gremsmühle is a water-powered grain mill. The historical evidence covers different areas: Tews-Kate refers to household life, agriculture and crafts, while the church represents medieval architectural history and Renaissance art. The water-powered Gremsmühle adds technology in the townscape to this perspective. Other places: Sieversdorf Sieversdorf, Benz Benz, Nüchel Nüchel, Malkwitz Malkwitz and Timmdorf Timmdorf.
