Eutin Palace Gardens preserve the Monopteros, a Greek circular temple and classical garden feature. The old town is also characterized by lanes and passageways with owner-operated shops, cafés and restaurants.

Culture and townscape

For walks through the garden landscape, Eutin Palace Gardens have a preserved circular network of paths. The Eutin Festival takes place in the park of Eutin Palace, featuring summer opera and operetta performances on an open-air stage.

The Holsteiner Cox apple has a special connection to the town’s regional history: in 1920, it was cultivated in Eutin by the teacher Vahldiek in his garden.

Nature and water

The surrounding landscape of Holstein Switzerland can be explored on foot, by bicycle or by canoe. There are opportunities for swimming, water sports and birdwatching. Holstein Switzerland Nature Park combines numerous lakes, low hills, extensive forests, fields and moors with paddling, swimming, hiking, cycling and birdwatching.

The Eutin Lake Circular Trail follows the shore of Lake Großer Eutin or leads through the forest on natural paths, repeatedly offering views of Eutin.

Circular trails and cycling tours

The southern variant of the Eutin Round Tour includes a detour into Eutin’s historic center, a visit to the palace and a picnic in the palace gardens. The Fields and Lakes Circular Trail is a long, varied hike to Eutin’s four larger lakes and the old town; it leads through shoreside areas, fields and natural sections of forest.

Eutin serves as a starting point for regional cycling tours such as the Beach Tour and the Estates Tour. Bicycles, e-bikes and related equipment can be rented in Eutin.

Eutin is served by trains from Lübeck and Kiel every 30 minutes. The Tourist Information office offers free, secure storage for bicycles and luggage.
