Tūjasmuiža is a destination for travelers who want to combine a historical local story with practical directions along a route. The historic center of Tūja Manor was in what is now Tūjasmuiža; at the same time, the Vidzeme Circle follows the P11 toward Tūja and on to Tūjasmuiža. This offers two perspectives for planning a trip: the history of the manor and the waypoints of a named route. If you want to take both into account when choosing where to stay, you can consider the information about the manor’s history and the route directions separately.

Tūja Manor and Its History

Tūja Manor was acquired by Heinrich Ulenbrock in 1564. In 1624, the Swedish king Gustav Adolf transferred the manor to Jürgen Aderkas. Sixty years separate these dates; they mark different events: first an acquisition, and later a transfer by the king. The historic center of the manor was in what is now Tūjasmuiža. This location connects the timeline with a specific place. Both the people involved and the nature of each event are therefore important to understanding the history of the manor: Ulenbrock’s acquisition and the later transfer to Aderkas are two distinct stages in its history.

Vidzeme Circle: Waypoints for Orientation

For directions, the Vidzeme Circle route follows the P11 toward Tūja and on to Tūjasmuiža. The Vidzeme Circle route also identifies the junction with the A1; there, turn right toward Ainaži. The two directions serve different purposes: the P11 indicates the stretch leading to the town, while the junction with the A1 marks the next change of direction. If you use this route for your trip, take current road conditions into account, as they can change. This lets you include the stretch on the P11 and the A1 junction as separate waypoints in your plans.

Tūja Hollow Stone and How to Reach It

Another landmark is Tūja Hollow Stone. It lies in a field in the more distant of two birch groves, when viewed from the inhabited area. Another access route goes through Tūjasmuiža, past a farm, and toward the birch groves. The location and access directions answer different questions: the location identifies the grove where the stone is found; the access description gives the direction and the farm as a point along the way. When using this route, respect the relevant conditions on private property and the road. Take these conditions into account when planning your visit.

Mēnespuķe and Event Planning

Mēnespuķe is also connected with Tūja Manor through an event. In 2024, the manor’s meadow was named as the venue for an open-air concert. For that edition, plans also called for an open-air concert hall made of hay bales to be built at the manor; the ZS “Tūjmuiža” was to supply the bales. The planned structure describes a specific idea for the event, not a permanent facility. If a concert is the deciding factor for your trip, check the dates for your preferred travel period.
