Meiuste
Accommodation in Meiuste
Meiuste combines coastal scenery and activities on the water with a section of a long-distance hiking trail. On the shore of Upsu Bay, the RMK Meiuste campsite is set in a pine forest, with views across the sea to Hiiumaa. In Meiuste küla, Sadama talu organizes fishing trips and boat trips to Hiiumaa. These different points of interest address different travel questions: Are you mainly interested in the bay shore and sea views, a fishing trip, or a longer hike? When planning a stay, you can compare Meiuste’s specific attractions with your own interests.
Coastal scenery on Upsu Bay
The RMK Meiuste campsite is on the shore of Upsu Bay, in a beautiful pine forest. From the campsite, you can see Hiiumaa across the sea. Here, forest and coast are not just general themes but specific features of the place: a campsite on the bay shore and views of the island. If scenery and sea views are important factors in choosing where to go, you can consider these features together. They offer a different kind of experience from a trip focused mainly on a boat excursion or a hiking stage.
Fishing and boat trips
Sadama talu in Meiuste küla offers fishing trips by motorboat or boat. Trips are seasonal and require a reservation. Guests can head out to sea to haul in nets or check fish traps in coastal waters. The fishing options differ both by location—open sea or coastal waters—and by activity: hauling in nets or checking fish traps. Sadama talu says it knows the best fishing spots in Saaremaa’s coastal waters in the Väinameri region.
Sadama talu also organizes boat trips to Hiiumaa. The round trip to Hiiumaa takes about 1.5 hours and requires a reservation. When choosing what to do, it helps to distinguish between a fishing trip and a boat excursion to Hiiumaa. For the latter, the approximate round-trip duration is also given; for fishing trips, the focus is on the different activities and seasonal availability.
A section of the hiking trail on Saaremaa
Meiuste is also part of a specific route for travelers on foot: the 27 km Tuhkana–Soela–Leisi–Angla–Mätja section belongs to the long-distance hiking trail on Saaremaa and runs along the Metsküla–Meiuste road. Between Soela and Leisi, the route passes through the RMK Meiuste campsite. From there, it leads away from the coast towards a country road. The campsite is therefore also on a named hiking route, which leads away from the coast at this point. If you plan to hike the trail, check current trail conditions in advance.
The three attractions offer different experiences: the bay and sea views shape the scenery around the campsite, Sadama talu organizes fishing trips or boat trips to Hiiumaa, and the hiking trail connects Meiuste to a longer route on Saaremaa. You can choose what suits your trip based on whether coastal views, a particular boat experience or a hiking route is most important to your plans.
