Gniew is considered a town located on the Vistula in the Kwidzyn Valley, on the edge of the Starogard Lake District and at the mouth of the Wierzyca into the Vistula. From the south, Gniew is accessed via Road 91. Gniew is associated with Kociewie; at the town entrance, regional visitor information and nearby places are promoted.

History and Townscape

Gniew Castle is a Gothic medieval fortress once built by the Teutonic Order. Its construction took place in several stages around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. “Gniew - Zamek Krzyżacki XIIIw.” is located in the immediate vicinity of Gniew. Gniew’s old town preserves a medieval street layout; historical interpretation is provided through metal photographic installations placed throughout the town. Walking along the market frontage and through the narrow streets is one way to explore Gniew with a camera.

Routes and Cycling

Bicycle rental is available for exploring parts of the Lower Vistula Valley. Kociewie cycling routes run through parts of the Kociewie region along quiet local roads. The blue Wierzyca River Trail is a hiking route running from Pogódki to Gniew.
