Stolpmünde, known in Polish as Ustka, lies at the mouth of the Słupia on the Baltic Sea. The town therefore brings together a river estuary and the Baltic coast. Beach, River and Routes
The eastern beach lies along the promenade and has tourist facilities. West of Ustka, the Szlak Uroczysko runs through the coastal landscape between the beach and residential areas. These two beach settings differ in their surroundings as described: one features a promenade and facilities, while the other is a coastal landscape between the beach and built-up areas. If you enjoy cycling, you can also include the long-distance cycle route R-10, the Nadmorski Szlak Hanzeatycki, in your travel plans: it passes through Ustka.
The Słupia is also a useful local landmark. Its rotating pedestrian bridge connects the opposite banks and is described as a tourist attraction. In the harbor, pirate-style ships offer excursions on the Baltic Sea. In this way, visitors encounter the river and the sea in different contexts: the bridge connects the two banks, while the excursions head out onto the Baltic Sea.
Maritime History and Historic Traces
The Muzeum Ziemi Usteckiej displays exhibits and photographs from around the turn of the 20th century, documents from the postwar period, and mementos from the decommissioned Stocznia „Ustka“. Its collection therefore brings together different periods and subjects: photographs and exhibits from around 1900 sit alongside postwar documents and mementos from the shipyard. Another historical trace remains in the layout of the old town’s streets. It preserves the plan of a medieval village and is protected as a historic monument for its historical value. In Stara Osada Rybacka, a small number of houses have also been preserved that belonged to Ustka’s most prominent residents, the ship captains. These two aspects tell different stories about the town’s earlier layout and the people connected with seafaring.
Historic buildings include the Kościół p.w. Najświętszego Zbawiciela, built between 1885 and 1888 and containing organs made by the Voelkner manufactory. The Ustka lighthouse offers a different architectural accent: it is octagonal and decorated with numerous cornices. Anyone interested in architectural forms can include both a church dating from the late 19th century and a distinctively designed lighthouse in their exploration of Stolpmünde’s history.
The Bunkry Blüchera add military history to these historical themes. They include the Park Spotkań z Historią, a multimedia gallery that shows the daily lives of the soldiers stationed in the bunkers. Here, the subject is presented through the soldiers’ everyday lives, setting it apart from the urban traces found in the old town, houses and historic buildings.
More Impressions and Local Orientation
The Tężnia is located in Park Usteckich Stoczniowców. Local fishermen sell fresh fish on Targ Rybny, caught with their fishing boats. These places add a park and a fishery-related offering to the picture of the town. The train station is a short distance from the town center and harbor, making it a useful point of reference when arriving in Ustka.
