Stary Rynek and historic townhouses

Stary Rynek is the centre of Puck. Its regular street grid and one hundred plots were laid out as early as the Middle Ages, in the 14th century. The square is therefore a good starting point for exploring the town’s historic layout: not only the central square, but also the arrangement of the streets and plots tells the story of the town’s early development.

Restored townhouses stand around Stary Rynek. They preserve traces of former craft workshops, colonial goods shops, inns and taverns. These signs of past uses offer a different perspective on the town centre from the museum exhibitions: here, history can be found in the buildings and their documented uses. If you are interested in local history, you can treat the market square and its houses as destinations in their own right during your stay.

Museums with different areas of focus

The Muzeum Ziemi Puckiej im. Floriana Ceynowy hosts temporary exhibitions in a townhouse at Stary Rynek 28. Its changing exhibitions set this location apart from the museum’s Szpitalik branch at ul. Wałowa 11. The branch has a permanent exhibition focusing on ethnographic collections. Visiting both locations gives you different ways to explore: changing exhibitions on the market square and a permanent ethnographic collection at the branch.

Another subject is explored at the Muzeum Morskiego Dywizjonu Lotniczego. It presents military artefacts, historical photographs and visualisations of former aircraft connected with the history of naval aviation in Puck. This adds maritime military history to the town-history and ethnographic perspectives. The three museums cover different topics, so you can choose according to whether you are more interested in temporary exhibitions, ethnographic collections or the history of naval aviation.

Cycling along the shoreline

The coastal cycling route passes the Kaczy Winkiel viewpoint and follows the shoreline through the town. The route described then extends to the residential area of Rozgard and continues towards Rzucewo. This sequence is useful for finding your way by bike: Kaczy Winkiel, the stretch through Puck, Rozgard and the continuation towards Rzucewo mark different sections of the route.

Maritime tradition and travel on the water

For centuries, Pucka Fara was the setting for the annual fishermen’s indulgences of Norda and Kashubia. The celebration, held on the last Saturday in June, is open to the public. This longstanding religious and maritime custom marks a different point in time from the permanent collection at the Szpitalik branch: it is part of a recurring festive tradition, while the exhibition there focuses on ethnographic collections.

Water transport is also part of the region’s tourism history in the Bay of Puck: a water tram service on the Puck–Chałupy route was introduced as part of the regional transport and tourism offer.
