Church, Sugar Factory, and Local History
Among the best-preserved historic monuments in Stare Pole is the branch church of Matki Boskiej Królowej Polski, together with its cemetery. The preserved features also include mature trees, a chapel, and a bell tower. The former Protestant branch church, now the Roman Catholic branch church of Matki Bożej Królowej Polski, was built in 1879. Alongside the cemetery and architectural features, its former denomination and year of construction are also aspects of the town’s history.
Another historic focal point is the sugar factory complex. Its construction began in 1880 as an investment by a joint-stock company. In the 19th century, the complex shaped the development of the town’s layout: first, it expanded Stare Pole westward with production and ancillary buildings, then northward with residential buildings for permanent and seasonal workers. This development describes not only the establishment of factory buildings, but also the town’s spatial expansion and the workers’ need for housing.
The post office building at ul. Sienkiewicza 3 is also part of this historical context. It was built in the last quarter of the 19th century, after the Ostbahn railway line had been routed through the town. Local history thus encompasses both the development around the sugar factory and the expansion of the railway connection, as well as the post office building constructed later.
Trees and Cycling Routes
The mature trees in the parish cemetery are protected as a historic monument. In addition, Stare Pole has several trees, mainly pedunculate oaks, described as natural monuments. If, during your stay, you would like to take in trees and established parts of the town as well as historic buildings, you will find two different points of interest here: the protected trees at the cemetery and the other natural monuments described.
Three cycling routes connect Stare Pole with Ząbrowo and Kraszewo. Together, the routes are 6.5 km long and serve both as connections and for recreation and tourism. The total length refers to all three cycling routes combined. For planning purposes, it is also important to note that the routes connect the towns; the stated figure does not describe the length of each individual route. Ząbrowo is therefore both a name in the cycling network and a possible destination for further orientation in the area.
Agricultural Life and Events
For years, the Żuławskie Targi Rolne has been regarded as a celebration of agriculture and rural life in the region. At the event on June 20 and 21, 2026, there was a livestock exhibition. The specialist exhibition Ogólnopolski Młodzieżowy Czempionat Koni Sztumskich was also held there for the tenth time. Breeding horses of this breed from six voivodeships were presented. The program for this particular edition combines agricultural themes with a presentation of Sztumski horses; the date refers to the event in June 2026.
Rail Connections and Further Orientation
Since December 15, 2024, the Taryfa Pomorska fare scheme has also applied to the railway section between Stare Pole and Elbląg in the direction of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. Together with the history of the Ostbahn, this provides a specific railway connection for finding your way around Stare Pole.
