The Wda and Młyński Pond
Next to the watermill, the Wda widens here to form Młyński Pond. The river, pond and mill are therefore closely connected at this location: the water shapes the landscape, while the mill provides a tangible link to the use of the water. If you are interested in the watermill, you can also view it from the Wda kayak trail. This offers a special view of the building from the river, without requiring your visit to focus solely on seeing it from land.
The river is a useful point of reference if you are looking for nature- or water-related attractions in Lipusz. Młyński Pond is part of the picture, as is the mill itself. Together, they offer different perspectives on the same place: one of the broad Wda, which forms the pond, and another of the building, which can be seen from the kayak trail.
The Arboretum and Recreation Park
The grounds of the Lipusz Forest District Office are home to an arboretum established in 2011, with a collection of trees and shrubs. It is the first and only garden of its kind in Kościerzyna County. For plant enthusiasts, the collection here goes hand in hand with a distinction that extends beyond this individual site: the arboretum holds a specifically highlighted status within the county.
Another place to visit is the park by the Lipusz Forest District Office (Park przy Nadleśnictwie Lipusz). It is open to the public and serves for recreation and education. Its educational trail focuses on nectar-rich trees, shrubs and perennials. The diverse plants create an interesting display of colour that changes with the seasons and over the years. The park also has pergolas, benches, paths with different surfaces and a covered rest area. You can therefore focus your visit on the plants and educational trail, or on the park’s layout and amenities.
Local history at specific sites
The Museum of Rural Life (Muzeum Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego) is housed in a former Protestant church at the intersection of Wybickiego and Majkowskiego streets. The building’s present-day use and former function connect two chapters of local history. Lipusz is also home to the Roman Catholic parish church of St Michael the Archangel. It is another clearly identifiable point of interest if you are interested in the religious and architectural history of the area.
A monument commemorates a Second World War prisoner-of-war camp that stood in the surrounding fields. On the route described, it lies 30 metres beyond the railway viaduct. The monument gives the history of the camp a place of remembrance; it is also geographically distinct from the churches and museum. If you choose to visit cultural sites, you can thus explore several different themes: the former use of a church building, the parish church and the commemoration of the camp.
A look at the surrounding area
Another nature destination, Diabelski Kamień, is located on the educational trail of the Lipusz Forest District Office, near the Płociczno forester’s lodge. It is in the surrounding area, not in the village of Lipusz itself. This is a useful distinction when planning: in the village, the Wda, the park and cultural sites are among the main attractions; Diabelski Kamień is an additional point of interest nearby. Depending on your interests, you can focus on water, plants, local history or a nature site near Płociczno.
