Skedevi: Discover nature and cultural history
Accommodation in Skedevi
Skedevi can be explored through two themes: the landscape around Lake Tisnaren and a cultural history that ranges from archaeological sites to a cultural landscape. Skedevi Church is located on the shore of Lake Tisnaren; the Prästängsudden nature reserve lies to the northeast. If you are looking for accommodation in Skedevi, you can first consider whether nature, archaeological sites, or local cultural offerings should be the main focus of your stay.
Nature by Lake Tisnaren
Prästängsudden lies on Lake Tisnaren and includes one of the largest continuous areas of broadleaf forest in northern Östergötland. The lakeshore and the expanse of forest give this nature theme two concrete aspects: its location by the water and a large area of broadleaf forest. The nature reserve lies northeast of Skedevi Church. The best way to reach it is by boat from Lake Tisnaren.
Archaeological sites and their features
Vallerängs stone circle can be understood through its measurements: the site has a diameter of about twelve metres and consists of twelve large stones, around 90 centimetres high. These approximate figures convey two scales—the size of the site as a whole and the height of the individual stones. This makes the stone setting easier to picture than its name alone would. The Husby burial ground comprises thirteen round stone settings and two round burial mounds. Here, several types of burial structure, clearly specified by number, are the focus, while Vallerängs stands out as a single site described by its measurements. The Kalehäll hillfort adds a few surviving remains to this selection; from there, you can enjoy a view over Lake Tisnaren. The three archaeological sites thus offer different points of interest: measurements at Vallerängs, different forms at the Husby burial ground, and surviving remains together with a lake view at Kalehäll.
Cultural landscape and local culture
The Skedevi cultural environment broadens the view beyond individual sites. An agricultural landscape, a parish centre, and village settlement areas shape it. Together, they show continuity of settlement and land use dating back to prehistoric times. Unlike a single burial ground or hillfort, the focus here is on the interplay between landscape and settlement.
The Skedevi Hembygdsförening holds a summer café every year on Sunday afternoons in July, where visitors can view collected items. It arranges guided tours of the local heritage farm on request. The Skedevi Church website also links to a visual online tour.
For planning purposes, these options differ in access and format: Prästängsudden is best reached by boat; the summer café takes place on Sunday afternoons in July, while tours of the heritage farm are arranged on request. The visual church tour adds a digital option. Check whether the linked material is available before using it.
