The Luleå archipelago comprises 1,312 islands, islets and skerries. Brackish water, ancient forest, barren rocks and long sandy beaches shape the landscape. Ormberget also combines various recreational activities. It has a downhill ski slope and an extensive, illuminated trail system. In winter, this is used as prepared cross-country ski trails. The road Krabbstigen leads towards the summit of the mountain, where there is a viewpoint.

Art, theatre and historic sites

Luleå Konsthall at Kulturens hus is located in the centre of Luleå. It presents art exhibitions throughout the year, divided into four periods, and focuses on contemporary art. Works by local, national and international artists are on display. In addition, Luleå Konsthall offers guided tours and practical workshops for all age groups.

Norrbottensteatern is located in the theatre building in Norra Hamn in Luleå and has three stages. Each year, the theatre stages around seven original productions and gives approximately 150 performances. In addition to its own productions, these include guest performances, theatre lunches and Saturday matinees.

Historic landmarks include Luleå Cathedral, which was inaugurated in 1893. In Gammelstad, Gammelstad Church Town has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1996.
