Vuollerim between river landscapes and local history
Accommodation in Vuollerim
River landscapes, rare plants and local history shape the themes of a stay in Vuollerim. Ekopark Vuollerim lies at the confluence of Stora Luleälven and Lilla Luleälven. The nature reserve, hiking trails and historic sites each offer their own starting points for planning a trip.
River Landscapes and Rare Plants
Ekopark Vuollerim has sun-exposed lichen heaths with rare mushrooms such as Goliatmusseron, Smultronkantarell and Taigataggsvamp. The Vuollerimravinerna Nature Reserve offers a different landscape: varied woodland on the steep slopes of the Luleälven, cut through by deeply incised ravines.
Tussilagolunden is a deciduous woodland ravine in Vuollerim. The rare coltsfoot grows there, an unusual sight in the inland areas of Upper Norrland. Tussilagolunden is signposted from the Porsi power station, and there is a parking area nearby. A boardwalk and signs lead to where the plant grows.
Spegeldammen was built to prevent water levels from falling beside Vuollerim. A 2025 municipal visitor guide describes Spegeldammen as a popular day-trip destination on warm summer days.
Hiking Trails and Seasonal Information
Vuollerim has five hiking trails of varying difficulty. The shortest is 2 km long, and the longest is just over 4 km. All the trails start at the northern end of Gästgivarestigen. The range in lengths highlights the difference between the shortest and longest routes; the varying levels of difficulty offer another criterion for comparison. Check locally for updates to the hiking trail information.
Archaeology and Local History
Ekopark Vuollerim has archaeological sites of settlements where people lived 6,000 years ago. A boardwalk leads to the excavation site, and several signs provide information about archaeological discoveries in the area.
Gamla Telegrafen was built in 1904 as a single-storey wooden building housing the telephone exchange and serving as a residence. The well-preserved building, dating from around the turn of the century, is considered an important link in Vuollerim's history. Objects and photographs from different periods have been collected there. To visit the museum at Gamla Telegrafen, you can contact the Vuollerim local heritage association.
The church in Vuollerim was inaugurated in 1958. It houses the altarpiece “Livets väg” by Lennart Segerstråle.
