In Moskosel, railway workers’ history, a cultural gathering place and seasonal activities exist side by side. The Rallarmuseet explores the work and social life of railway workers, while cross-country skiing and a hiking trail to the summit of Erik-Larsaberget offer other ways to experience the area. There is also the church south of the village, the Creative Lab in the old school and local waterways.

Railway and Cultural History

The Rallarmuseet is housed in Moskosel’s old railway station. Visitors can learn about the work and social life of railway workers there. In this way, the museum connects a specific railway location with social aspects of working life. The Rallarmuseet also has a miniature railway for children, adding an explicitly child-focused aspect to its railway theme.

Another cultural landmark is the Moskosel Creative Lab in the old school. It is a cultural meeting place and also a place for artists. Compared with the Rallarmuseet, the focus shifts: there, the work and social life of railway workers take centre stage; here, the emphasis is on artists. Those who consider culture when choosing where to stay can distinguish between the two based on these themes.

Church, Mountain and Waterways

Moskosel Church stands south of Moskosel on a rise surrounded by pine forest. About 6 km north-northeast of the village, nearby, lies Erik-Larsaberget, an extensive, primeval-forest-like mountain area with two peaks and steep slopes. The two landscapes offer different impressions: a forested rise on the one hand, and a mountain area with peaks and steep terrain on the other.

The waterways can also be understood through a specific sequence: two lake systems converge in the large Moskoselet and continue together via the Abmoälven to the Piteälven. Several named waterways are thus part of a connected course.

Seasons and Activities

The cross-country ski trail in Moskosel is 2.5 km long and illuminated; it also includes a 5 km section that can be used during the day. This information helps with two different planning questions: one gives the illuminated length, while the other specifies a section for daytime use. Use is seasonal; check snow and lighting conditions before travelling.

A hiking trail to the summit of Erik-Larsaberget points to summer tourism. In terms of the seasons, this summer activity contrasts with seasonal cross-country skiing.

Trollforsen is about 19 km northwest of Moskosel and offers fishing in the flowing waters of the Piteälven. Permits and regulations may change; check them before fishing.

Everyday Life in Moskosel

Moskosel has a digital grocery store that is open around the clock. If shopping there is important to your travel plans, check availability. Café Navet is located along European Route 45 in Moskosel and is a meeting place for locals and travellers. The two places serve different purposes: the store is a practical place to shop, while Café Navet is a meeting place for both locals and visitors.
