Sassnitz is a state-recognized seaside resort on the Baltic Sea, located on the Jasmund Peninsula in northeastern Rügen. The town combines its seaside location with a distinctive coastal and natural landscape.
Coast and Nature
The chalk coast begins immediately northeast of the town’s central built-up area. The Jasmund National Park is located nearby and is associated with extensive beech forests. These were granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 2012.
Tipper Ort, a cape, is also located nearby. The Hundestrand, a beach, is located in the surrounding area of Sassnitz. The Glowe beach and Sellin’s main beach are also located in the wider regional surroundings of Sassnitz.
Culture
Sassnitz is known for its spa architecture in the spa district. St. Paul’s Church in Bobbin, a church, is located in the surrounding area. Dinosaurierland, a park, is also located there.
