Lietzow is located on Rügen at the narrowest point of the land bridge between the Großer Jasmunder Bodden and the Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden. The municipality in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is located approximately eleven kilometers northeast of Bergen auf Rügen.

Transport and Classification

The B96 road and the Stralsund–Sassnitz and Lietzow–Binz railway lines run directly through Lietzow. Regional trains generally continue alternately toward Sassnitz or Binz. This makes Lietzow a transfer point in the rail network.

The Großer Wostevitzer Teich pond is located in the northeast of the municipality. The island of Pulitz is in the immediate vicinity, while the island of Alt Rügen lies in the surrounding area of Lietzow.

Walking and cycling excursions around Lietzow pass through or along nature reserves and European protected areas, including EU bird protection areas and FFH areas. Hiking routes from Lietzow include an excursion to the Schmale Heide and its flint fields; a cycling tour connects Lietzow with the island of Pulitz.

The paths and cycle trails around Lietzow can be rough, run steeply along some high-bank sections, and are often neither signposted nor marked along the route. Some cycling sections are more like mountain biking trails.
