Two very different coastal landscapes shape a stay in Glowe: a fine-sand beach with a promenade and a pebble beach that begins east of the harbor beneath a high shoreline. There is also a spa park with sculptures and fitness equipment, as well as signposted hiking routes. If you would like to combine time at the beach with exercise and a few cultural sights, Glowe offers several options—from the shallow shoreline to longer walks along the pebble beach.
Sandy beach and beach access points
The fine-sand beach stretches from the harbor along the promenade to beyond Kurplatz Glowe. It is about 1,300 meters long and has 13 beach access points. These access points help you find your way along the beach; you can use the approximate length and number of access points as a guide when planning your visit. The section of beach in front of the harbor, near access points 1 to 4, is suitable for families with children. The natural current makes the shoreline particularly shallow there. There is also a beach volleyball court at beach access point 2.
This lets you tailor your beach visit to different interests: the shallow shoreline in front of the harbor is an option for families, while the beach volleyball court offers a specific spot for an active break by the sea. Promenade, views and waterway stop
The promenade, about one kilometer long, runs between Kurplatz and Kap Königshörn. From its sun terraces or benches, you can see across the Baltic Sea as far as Kap Arkona. It makes it easy to combine a walk by the water with regular places to stop and take in the view.
The small Kap Königshörn is right next to the Glowe waterway rest stop, opposite Kap Arkona. At the harbor building, an observation tower about 7 meters high offers panoramic views across the entire bay. If you are interested in coastal scenery, the tower offers a different perspective from the sun terraces or benches along the promenade: the tower looks out across the bay, while the promenade offers views along its route.
Pebble beach, spa park and hiking routes
A pebble beach with an adjoining high shoreline begins east of the harbor. This stretch of coast is a starting point for long beach walks and exploring. Unlike the fine-sand beach, it is defined by its rocky shoreline and high coast. If you are looking for longer walks by the water, you can include this beach as a separate option in your explorations of Glowe.
The spa park is located directly above Glowe’s pebble beach. Numerous stone sculptures by artist Mile Prerad shape the park, which also has 12 outdoor fitness machines where adults of all ages can work out. The outdoor art and exercise facilities offer two distinct reasons to visit the park. This means that, alongside its beaches, Glowe also has a place where sculptures and exercise equipment come together—you don’t have to make the sandy beach the sole focus of your vacation.
Glowe has seven signposted hiking routes, ranging from 5.9 to 8.2 kilometers long. The stated distances make it easier to choose a route based on how far you want to walk; no information about duration or difficulty is provided. Historic sights in Glowe
The castle complex in Spyker was first mentioned in 1318 and is designed in the Renaissance style. It once served as the residence of the Swedish field marshal Gustav von Wrangel. Its history and architecture offer a different focus from the beach and outdoor activities; the complex is also a popular stop for hikers and cyclists on Glowe’s cycling and hiking trail network.
The Gothic Church of St. Pauli in the village of Bobbin is another cultural highlight. Built of fieldstone around 1400, it is the only surviving fieldstone church on the island of Rügen.
