Breege lies on the Breeger Bodden and is shaped by its seafaring tradition. Local history, the harbour and boat trips form a maritime focus; beach and walking destinations can also be explored in the municipality, particularly in Juliusruh.
Bodden location and harbour
The Breeger Bodden is part of the Großer Jasmunder Bodden. Breege harbour has 50 guest berths with electricity and water connections. Breege can therefore be understood both geographically, through its location on the Bodden, and through its harbour.
Traces of seafaring and the Saalsteine
The so-called captains’ houses preserved in Breege bear witness to the village’s seafaring tradition. In the Bodden of the same name, just off Breege, lie the so-called Saalsteine: large erratic boulders in the waters of the Bodden. Here, two different features sit side by side: reminders of the village’s maritime history and striking natural formations in the water.
Juliusruh: promenade and park
Juliusruh is a locality within the municipality. The promenade, completed in 2013, runs the entire length of the locality and invites visitors to take a walk all year round. From the promenade, there are views across the Tromper Wiek. A year-round walking route and views across the water thus complement the impressions shaped by Breege’s harbour and Bodden location.
Juliusruh Park has some exotic plants and many lime trees. A monument to the village’s founder is enclosed by beech hedges. The Breege-Juliusruh visitor centre provides cycling and hiking maps, tickets and information for visitors. The maps help you find your way on trips on foot or by bike; tickets and visitor information round out the offer.
Beach on the Schaabe
The Schaabe is home to an almost eleven-kilometre-long, fine sandy, unguarded beach stretching from the Baltic Sea resorts of Breege-Juliusruh to Glowe. It is mainly visited by naturists. If you are looking for a lifeguarded beach, take its explicitly unguarded status into account when choosing; its predominant use by naturists is relevant for those looking to bathe nude. Its length and the stretch described also help place this beach section within the municipality, rather than solely in the village of Breege.
Trips from Breege harbour
Breege ferry and excursion trips offer boat tours to popular destinations on the coast of Rügen, as well as deep-sea fishing in the Baltic Sea. Excursions from Breege harbour are also offered to the Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek and to the island of Hiddensee. The offer thus includes both trips to named destinations and deep-sea fishing.
