Geographical Setting

Spornitz is located approximately eight kilometers west of Parchim, at the northern foothills of the Ruhner Berge. Here, the landscape transitions into the flat plains of the protected Lewitz landscape area.

The nearby surroundings of Spornitz include Silberberg, Lorenzberg, Clausberg, and Steinberg. The wider regional area is home to Schwedenschanze, Elefantenhof Platschow, Schwerin-Zippendorf TV Tower, and Schwerin Zoo.

Landscape and Water

A large part of the municipal area is characterized by agriculture; the southeast is forested. Some of the fishponds in the Lewitz are located within the cadastral area of Spornitz. Along a short section, the Müritz-Elde Waterway forms the municipal boundary.

History and Architectural Heritage

Well-preserved remains of the Parchim Landwehr can be found in Spornitz and to the east of it. The earthwork was a late medieval, rampart-like border fortification of the city of Parchim.

The registered architectural heritage of Spornitz includes a forester's lodge and a barn. The barn on Hauptstraße is considered a half-timbered building.

Other places within the same higher-level destination are Severin, Groß Godems, Zölkow, Obere Warnow, Lewitzrand, Karrenzin, Domsühl and Ziegendorf.
