Lakes, Nature and Trails

The Alte Elde nature reserve borders Gallin-Kuppentin to the west. The municipality is also home to a waterside rest area for canoeists, located in the forest along the Elde-Müritz Waterway, which is also used by many campers. The local attractions therefore include both a protected natural area and opportunities for canoeing and camping.

The lakes differ in size and what they offer: Lake Zahren covers 83 hectares and is navigable by rowboat. Lake Daschow covers 19 hectares, has a shoreline of around 1,300 meters, and is also navigable by rowboat. Boat rentals are another option at Lake Daschow; check whether they are available before your trip. If you would rather walk around the lake, Daschow has a circular hiking trail that runs around the lake as a nature trail. The loop takes about 60 minutes.

Cycling and Canoeing

A well-developed network of cycling paths connects the villages of Zahren, Penzlin, Gallin, Kuppentin and Daschow. A well-maintained cycle path also runs along the Elde-Müritz Waterway. Cycling and waterways are therefore distinct themes to consider when planning your trip, alongside the lakes and historic buildings. In summer, the bathing areas in the municipality of Gallin-Kuppentin offer playgrounds and sports facilities.

Kuppentin Village Church

Kuppentin Village Church was built in 1235, the same year it was first mentioned in a document. It is one of the oldest churches in Mecklenburg and is a tourist attraction. Its simple nave is made of fieldstone and has both round-arched and pointed-arch windows. The buttresses at the southwest and northwest corners have been rebuilt.

The choir is built of Gothic brick, and its gable rises above the central nave. The wooden bell tower dates from the 18th century. In addition to church services, the building is also used in the summer months for exhibitions, lectures and musical events. The church brings together different periods and uses: the medieval building, the later bell tower and the seasonal cultural program.

Gut Zahren and Summer Activities

In Zahren, Gut Zahren adds another perspective on architectural history. The manor house dates from the late 18th century. The ensemble also includes a former horse stable, a milk house and a former manor kitchen. The manor house is accompanied by a listed park with mature trees. Together, these buildings and grounds form a historic manor ensemble.

When planning your trip, you can weigh up the different options: a loop around Lake Daschow takes about an hour, while Kuppentin Church offers a different cultural experience through its architecture and summer activities. The municipal bathing areas also have playgrounds and sports facilities for summer visits.
