Manor house, motte and churches
Gutshaus Borkow is a manor house built around 1700–1720, situated on the River Mildenitz. Its grounds cover approximately 20,000 m². The so-called “Turmhügel Island” can be reached from the grounds via a small bridge; the Borkow motte was built in the mid-15th century. The Gutskapelle Borkow stands in the eastern part of the manor estate and is one of the first Protestant churches in the state. Its complete restoration was completed around 2010. Borkow village church is also architecturally noteworthy: the brick building probably dates from the 16th century and has a polygonal chancel of the same width as the nave. The brick construction and polygonal chancel offer visitors concrete points of interest in the building’s history.
A distinctive feature of the village church is the “Mecklenburg organ,” built and consecrated in 1997. Its mechanism plays the melody “Herrn Pastor sin Kauh” and includes a moving waterwheel, a windmill with a cymbal, and moving cow heads.
