Klink village church was built between 1736 and 1742 as a rectangular brick building without a tower. Its floor plan, materials and lack of a tower give it a distinctive, easily described form. The von Schnitzler family acquired the Klink estate, along with other lands, in 1897. They had the old manor house demolished and a castle built by 1898 in the Neo-Renaissance style, modeled on the castles of the Loire. The patronage, demolition and new construction can be placed in a short sequence to help put the castle in context. The Loire connection gives the castle a specific architectural reference point, while the demolition of the old manor house marks a change at the estate. Klink Gatehouse was built as an administrative residence after the castle was completed in 1898. It thus adds a building with its own function to the castle’s history.
