Kieve is situated on the Upper Elde. When choosing where to stay, two specific points of interest come together here: the village’s architectural history and the waterways in the surrounding area. There is also an annual harvest festival, as well as services for regional transport and events. You can tailor your stay to what matters most to you: historic architecture, water or village life.
Village architecture with a long history
The church in Kieve dates back to the 13th century and is an early Gothic building made of fieldstone and brick. A wooden bell tower is attached to its west side. The church is a listed monument; the vicarage in Kieve is also listed. These two village buildings offer different points of connection to the area’s history: the medieval church, with its distinctive building materials, and the vicarage as another protected building.
A typical smallholder’s house in Kieve is a half-timbered terraced house dating from the first half of the 18th century. It now houses a restaurant. The area’s architectural history thus extends beyond the church to include a rural residential building from a later period. If you plan to visit the restaurant, check the latest information in advance.
The Elde, lakes and landscape
South of Kieve, the gently undulating area forms part of the Wittstock-Ruppiner Heide. The Großer Kiever See, covering about 17 hectares, lies near Kieve. The Glambeck See is considerably larger, at 45 hectares; as a clear-water lake, it reaches depths of up to 22 metres. The Kieve bathing area is located on the Glambeck See. The lake and its public bathing area are about three kilometres from Kieve. If swimming is part of your plans, it is advisable to check the current conditions before your visit.
For planning activities on the water, swimming and canoeing can be considered separately: there is a public bathing area on the Glambeck See. A local study from 2019 described the Elde in the area as suitable for canoeing. This statement about the river should therefore be understood as an assessment from that year, not as information about a current service. Kieve thus combines a direct connection to the Upper Elde with lakes and a nearby bathing area.
Festivals, community and dining
Kieve’s harvest festival has been held annually since 1946. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the date for your visit in advance. The community centre is also an important place for village life: it opened on 2 August 2024 and serves as the social and cultural hub for residents. Regular events are intended to bring it to life.
The hall in the community centre is about 91 square metres in size and can accommodate approximately 60 people. The centre can be used for various types of events, including by people from outside the community. A usage agreement is required. The hall therefore provides a specific venue for events, but is not open to the public at all times.
Dorfkrug Kieve serves freshly prepared German cuisine, with a weekly changing menu. Dishes include roast duck, venison goulash and zander. As the menu changes, the selection may be different when you visit.
Getting around the region
The ELLI community transport service can be booked in advance by phone. There is no fare for the journeys; drivers welcome donations.
