Brunow: Circular Village and Village Flea Market

Brunow combines the distinctive layout of a circular village with a glimpse of the market activity in 2025. This gives you two different topics to consider when planning a trip: the spatial structure of the village and a market that included the church, courtyards and gardens.

The layout of the circular village

The circular village of Brunow has 18 radially arranged hedges, some of which are up to 1.4 kilometres long. Together, they form a “pie-shaped” layout. The radial arrangement gives the hedge structure a clear geometry; the stated length is a maximum, not a uniform length for all the hedges. Brunow’s village landscape can thus be described by the interplay of direction, number and extent.

Half-timbered church and village flea market

The old half-timbered church is completely encircled by the Ringstraße. At the 2025 Brunow Village Flea Market, the Ringstraße ran around the church and became a festival street. The market included seven courtyards and gardens open to visitors around the Ringstraße and on Ziegendorfer Straße. During the event, some of the open courtyards and gardens offered coffee, cake and cold drinks, as well as places to sit. Brunow’s playground also provided space to play and climb during the market. Brunow’s farm shop was part of the market and hosted a special exhibition featuring paintings by the late Renate Niethammer.

The church in Brunow belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Brunow-Muchow Parish. The parish invites people to church services and other events. If you are planning to attend, check the event times separately.

Nature and monastic history are also among the topics in the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination. The calcareous fen near Zarrentin is part of the Schaalelauf Nature Reserve; visitors can explore the fen from the nature trail. Guided tours at Zarrentin Monastery cover the history of the former Cistercian convent, the nuns’ lives and the building’s architecture.
